Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Shocked and alarmed!
Revisado: 04-11-24
I liked the entire book! It is scary to think of the possibility of this really happening and the death toll. It makes me want to prepare for such a disaster. Very eye opening!

Ada promised herself she would never go back to the Trace, to her unbearable life on the swamp, and to her harsh father in Mississippi. But now, after running away to Baton Rouge and briefly knowing a different kind of life, she finds herself with nowhere to go but back home. Matilda, daughter of a sharecropper, is from the other side of the Trace. Doing what she can to protect her family from the whims and demands of some particularly callous locals is an ongoing struggle, so she forms a plan to go north.

Love the story!
Revisado: 05-06-22
I have to say I loved the story. It was hard to get past the reader’s performance. Suggestion:spend a year in the Deep South before any performance of someone from the south. If portraying someone from the south use normal speech when not portraying a southern character.
Loved the story! Good plot & good coming of age story.

Through the magnetic personality of his mischievous dog, the author soon makes powerful connections with several of his down-the-hall neighbors in a high-rise located in the unique Battery Park City neighborhood of Lower Manhattan. First, Katie trots into the lives of Pearl and Arthur, a warm-hearted elderly couple just a few doors down from Glenn. Later, John, a single Dad, and his rambunctious young son, Ryan, also move in and are seduced by Katie's charms.

Endearing & Beautiful Story
Revisado: 04-06-22
This is such a heart-felt story. It supports out the saying “Friends are the family we choose.” Katie was wonderful at choosing each of them. It always amazes me how animals just know.
I used to have a neighbor that had a blonde cocker spaniel. I lived hear for years before finding out he lived next door to the little girl he followed around the neighborhood! Dude was very friendly to most & always protected the little girl. Katie with Ryan reminded me of them.
