Historia
If you want to fix your sleep problems, Internet tips and tricks aren't going to do it for you. You need to really understand what's going on with your sleep - both what your problems are and how to solve them. Dubbed the "Sleep Whisperer" by Arianna Huffington, Dr. Winter is an international expert on sleep and has helped more than 10,000 patients rest better at night, including countless professional athletes. Now he's bringing his experiences out from under the covers - redefining what it means to have optimal sleep and get the ZZZs you really need.

Love the information, less the "comedic" approach
Revisado: 06-06-23
The information presented is great--we all need it--especially those of us who struggle with sleep. The author's approach of making fun of folks who say they don't sleep and some of the other joking and wise-ass kind of story telling did not work for me and it was very distracting from the real information.
I'm actually a patient in Dr. Winter's practice for awhile although I have not met him. I see an awesome nurse practitioner there and am very pleased. I've had a diagnosis of sleep apnea for 7-8 years and recently diagnosed with narcolepsy. I've only been to 2 neurologists for the sleep issues and was pleased to hear that he recommends neurologists for this care but it was difficult to get to the pearls of information like that with having to wade through all of the filler! I understand that authors have to include stories and anecdotal material as it helps us to understand but i did feel that he was making fun of some patients and their concerns. I'm sure that was not his intention but it did not come across well.
I wanted to "read" the book so I finally did so with lots of fast forwarding through some of the exaggerated stories, etc so that I could get to the real wisdom he clearly presents. Maybe a comedy club for the other stuff.......
I did love his narration and accent--I'm a Virginian too!

Historia
Of all the things humans rely on plants for - sustenance, beauty, medicine, fragrance, flavor, fiber - surely the most curious is our use of them to change consciousness: to stimulate or calm, fiddle with or completely alter, the qualities of our mental experience. Take coffee and tea: People around the world rely on caffeine to sharpen their minds. But we do not usually think of caffeine as a drug, or our daily use as an addiction, because it is legal and socially acceptable.

Birds are astonishingly intelligent creatures. In fact, according to revolutionary new research, some birds rival primates and even humans in their remarkable forms of intelligence. Like humans, many birds have enormous brains relative to their size. Although small, bird brains are packed with neurons that allow them to punch well above their weight.

Historia
Carver Briggs never thought a simple text would cause a fatal crash, killing his three best friends, Mars, Eli, and Blake. But now Carver can't stop blaming himself for the accident, and, even worse, a powerful judge is pressuring the district attorney to open up a criminal investigation. Luckily, Carver has some unexpected allies: Eli's girlfriend, the only person to stand by him at school; Dr. Mendez, his new therapist; and Blake's grandmother, who asks Carver to spend a "goodbye day" together to share their memories and say a proper farewell.

Wonderful Book
Revisado: 04-17-22
I work as a grief counselor and hospice chaplain and one of my colleagues selected this book for a book group that we hold on a regular basis. I both read the book and listened to the book. As always, I picked up different things in reading and in hearing the book. I think it’s a great book for adults, as well as for teens and young adults. Loved how real it was.
