Historia
Joan of Arc meets Lord of the Rings in this sweeping adventure of hope and wonder, perfect for middle and high school listeners (ages 12 and up). When archaeologists uncover an ancient book embedded in stone deep within a mountain, they unlock the forgotten saga of Zara, a slave warrior from the Bronze Age. As the excavation progresses, Zara’s story begins to spill into the present, intertwining two realms: one cloaked in darkness and the other bathed in light.

Great YA Fantasy
Revisado: 02-13-25
I enjoyed this book thoroughly. My teenaged daughter absolutely loved it! If you like young adult fantasy, this is a great one.

Historia
In 1908, near Folsom, New Mexico, a cowboy discovered the remains of a herd of extinct giant bison. By examining flint points embedded in the bones, archeologists later determined that a band of humans had killed and butchered the animals 12,450 years ago. This discovery vastly expanded America's known human history but also revealed the long-standing danger Homo sapiens presented to the continent's evolutionary richness. Distinguished scholar Dan Flores's ambitious history chronicles the epoch in which humans and animals have coexisted in the "wild new world" of North America.

Useful
Revisado: 06-26-23
Really useful historic and pre-historic information, and a lot of good info about ongoing species recovery. The author complains about how the issues surrounding conservation have become politically partisan, but then engages in partisan language himself, which became tiresome.

Hegemon pronunciation?
Revisado: 07-10-19
It seems like they changed our they wanted "hegemon" pronounced part way through production. When they did, they used the wrong voice actor to replace the word in one of the other actor's lines. It seems like something easily remedied with half an hour more editing and getting the first actor on tape saying the word correctly. And then they left it with the other pronunciation in a few instances. I also noticed a doubled "somehow" in a line like, "somehow we somehow..." I doubt this made it past the editors into print and suspect it was the audio production because of the other issues. This is the sixth book by this team in this universe and otherwise I love it. Card never fails. Story is great.

Excellent book!
Revisado: 05-23-19
My only complaint is that the narrator's voice Trails off several times and I might be losing a word or two but this problem only persists for probably the first third of the book. other otherwise, I loved the story, the performance, and everything else about the book.
