This letter is the closest that Kafka came to setting down his autobiography. He was driven to write it by his father's opposition to his engagement with Julie Wohryzek. The marriage did not take place; the letter was not delivered.

What’s up with the background music?
Revisado: 10-15-22
This sounds like an old man reading this while some electronic music played in his house, recorded on a phone. It’s crazy how lo fi this is. DO NOT BUY

Historia
"While the history books are filled with tales of obsessive visionary geniuses who remade the world in their images with sheer, almost irrational force, I've found that history is also made by individuals who fought their egos at every turn, who eschewed the spotlight, and who put their higher goals above their desire for recognition." Loved the bonus at the end
Revisado: 03-26-19
One thing that’s not advertised, that I appreciated very much as an Easter egg, is the conversation between Tim Ferriss and Ryan Holiday at the “ending credits”, tons of great quotes and insight as value added, well worth the listen!

I never imagined a movie can happen in the mind like this.
Revisado: 12-26-18
Perhaps because I’m too young to have known the golden age of radio plays, I have never understood the magic of it. Previously I’ve only used Audible for listening to nonfiction books, but today I am floored. As I finish this audio sitting in the back of a bus in Japan with tears streaming down my face I can only say “thanks” ... for giving me such a beautiful story, beautiful performance, and a reminder of what life should be... to have a nice day.

The authors devoted five decades to the study of world history and philosophy, culminating in the masterful 11-volume Story of Civilization. In this compact summation of their work, Will and Ariel Durant share the vital and profound lessons of our collective past. Their perspective, gained after a lifetime of thinking and writing about the history of humankind, is an invaluable resource for us today.

Even better experience than the book
Revisado: 08-25-18
I wholly recommend this Audiobook not just for its wisdom and magnificent prose, not just for the mind-expanding power of its ideas and the humility of its earnest contemplation of truths, but for the professionalism of the narrator in delivering a text that is at times quite dense. I think I enjoyed the book even more in audio form than as written word, and the selection of the interview recordings interspersed throughout are done with care and love for both author and listener. I felt enriched by this audio experience, and am grateful to have found such a fine (audio)book.
