Bob
Revisado: 06-12-18
My best friend for many years has been Bob. So, I told Bob he should listen to 'We are Legion, We are Bob'.
I was so fulfilled but sad when that story ended.
OK, this is really fun.
I have a very different point of view, than the current group of Sci-Fi writers, but this story is still "brilliant"? The good guys are super smart, the bad guys are silly, then they aren't. So we have drama, then funny, then stupid, then "Wow where did that come from?". It is always engaging and yet silly. Poignant and still who do we root for?. It's a pickem! or a good hand of poker. I think it really speaks to life. When you try to do something special, and fail, you're like Huh? then you feel like your screwing something up and something great comes out of it.
The only fail is when you stop. I love his writing.

Hi,
I have been around here for a long long time.
It's my fault I stopped reviewing books, but after 1100 books, you can run out of words.
Yet, this series is wicked. I really looked forward to this 3rd book. Even then, several times during the audio, I became afraid it would ruin the first two books. NOT!
I literally had to go back several times to listen the last half hour of this one to mentally process the unending twists. Very fulfilling (plot, characters, confusion, reboots.) If you can't keep it straight it gets tough, but never boring.
5 stars.

The Galahad, a faster-than-light spacecraft, carries 50 scientists and engineers on a mission to prepare Kepler 452b, Earth's nearest habitable neighbor at 1400 light years away. With Earth no longer habitable and the Mars colony slowly failing, they are humanity's best hope. After 10 years in a failed cryogenic bed - body asleep, mind awake - William Chanokh's torture comes to an end as the fog clears, the hatch opens, and his friend and fellow hacker, Tom, greets him...by stabbing a screwdriver into his heart. This is the first time William dies.

if you agree with the negative reviews, that is fine. give the book a chance and make your own choice.
I almost skipped it, based on the negatives, but, I am so glad I didn't.
the ideas and twists are provocative to the point where....
I just say yes. it is well worth my time!

I "love" the Cycle of... books, they are great.
I don't like apocalypse books. One reviewer said this is great for readers that don't like end of the world reads.
Holy Cow. I simply couldn't put it down. The writing is excellent. Every time the story goes a direction that is... hmmh. It flips into something so twisted and or funny. Sometimes icky. But if you want a story that just grabs you and doesn't let go. This is one. I bought it for the 4 books by an author I like, for 1 credit. But!
Don't miss out. Still thinking about the characters days later.

We all have inner demons. We fight them all the time. Some of us achieve inner peace by coming to terms with them. But how do you come to terms with inner demons that tear free and become outer demons? Eric has been a vampire for nearly a century, and his demons are more than metaphors. While they controlled him, he was the Demon King. Now he has to avoid the monsters in his own mind, as well as angry nobles, fanatical religions, assassins, magi, other vampires, criminal organizations, and more.

Great Books!
Revisado: 10-09-16
So... For an Audible listener with over 900 books in my library, I have fallen down as a reviewer.
I am back because this author and series is more than 5 star. I describe Nightlord as the longest audiobooks that pass in the blink of an eye. Each book is 40 hours of wonder. The slow parts are so engaging that I want to stay and live with them. The hard parts are wrenching.
I have several favorite authors. Bujold, Jordan, Sanderson, even Asaro.
This story is fabulous. Two and a half days to get through 37 hours of audio, and now I have to wait for the next.
Thankfully there is a next.
I can't say that I would ever want it to end.

REPLACE THESE
Revisado: 06-08-11
I wrote about this for book 5. I have contacted Books in Motion about this. The production values and narrator of this book are so bad that Audible should refund our credits till the books are re-released with a proper narrator. (Jerry Sciarrio :-). LIstening to this at 2x speed and constantly jumping back to figure what the heck is going on, kept these two books from being impossible to listen to. I love the series and want to own it, But Not with this poor level of narration. Books in Motion, please correct this.

Sten had fully expected to die in a blaze of glory, taking his Emperor's greatest foe with him. Instead he was a slave laborer in a P.O.W. camp deep in the heart of enemy territory. But sitting out the action had never been Sten's style. And now that the war was building to a climax, the Eternal Emperor needed him more than ever. Not even the toughest prison in the known universe could keep Sten from his mission....

Where is Jerry Sciarrio?
Revisado: 05-23-11
OMG! This is the worst narrator. Beware!... Persue a refund till they get someone else to read this book.
Our favorite heavy worlder scottsman, now speaks like a 75 year old German woman . (German and Scottish accents aren't close) All of the Characters we have come to know, now sound like flamboyent female impersonators.
And the aliens sound like 50's era TV Western China-men.
The extended dramatic pauses between verb and object or subject in almost every sentence, makes the book unintelligible. I have to listen to the reader at 2X speed just to get a sense of what is going on. "Oy Vay" this is really bad. Can they get Jerry Sciarrio to redo this book Please.

Good Story
Revisado: 11-27-10
I have now listened to several of Alastair's books. I have enjoyed them all.
After every story, I have always looked and hoped for a sequel. There aren't any. Each book is a completely different tale in a different ("universe" basically).
I think this is a compliment to Alistair Reynolds and his imagination. He never rides the coattails of a trilogy or series. He always creates something new. These books are well thought out Science fiction.
I will buy all of his works on Audible. Give us more please.

Ok, I loved the book. but...
I really like Paul Boehmer in Time Travelers. But this is a first person narration by a WOMAN, Chase Kolpath. Where is Jennifer Van Dyck?
Stick to the series narrator thoughout a series please!!?.
Worth listening, and I almost forgot the narrator, but I just couldn't forget.
I hope Jack writes more from both of these series, "Alex" and "Hutch". They are wonderful stories to take a break from reality with.

a Review
Revisado: 06-18-10
Ok, I don't like the vampire genre. This is not that.
I was frustrated after getting this book that it seemed like a vampire novel.
But,.. I could not put it down. The story and the characters are all worth the time invested.
I love the emotions and loyalty that surfaces out of the darkness of the story. I love the odd twists that the story takes. Yes, I am looking forward to the sequel.
I would hate to spend 2 credits on any book, but this is one credit well spent. The hours involved are well worth it.
This book is a journey. and one that should continue.
Even if you don't like Stephen King,.. I do, but then if you do like Robert Jordan, or Brandon Sanderson,.. you will like this. It is good!
