I thought losing things was easy - like losing keys, your wallet, your smartphone or your followers on Facebook. But that’s not true. Losing my virginity seems to be the most difficult thing in the world. I live in a decent apartment and have great friends to go out with any night of the week, to pubs full of beautiful girls. And yet, I'm carrying my ‘V’ card.

Historia
Motherhood isn’t easy, especially when you’re a mother of a Black son. Ten years ago, Cheryl jumped at the chance to send her son, Javonte, to an exclusive boarding school in New England - far away from Atlanta and the violence of the city streets. It was the American dream, or was it? Now settled in Vermont, Javonte is married and well-employed, but Cheryl hardly ever sees him, and when she does, her own son seems like someone she only used to know.

interesting and relatable
Revisado: 04-03-21
The story was interesting and relatable in certain ways (it helps that I've in Atlanta before). I'd listen to it again.

Historia
Confessions of a Token Black Girl is a snappy comedic tale framing Danielle's first-hand experiences in Wisconsin and other places as the perpetual "token Black girl", fraught with dark moments and hate crimes. It's a coming-of-age-story but instead of finding herself during a road trip, Danielle found herself through the effects of racism. This book humorously chronicles Danielle's quest for understanding what Black identity means to her - instead of what it means to everyone else.

Wish it was longer because the stories are so rich
Revisado: 03-13-21
I Wish it was longer because the stories are so rich. As a fellow black woman, it was very relatable. Even the parts would upset most, I had to laugh because I could predict where the story was headed and it was familiar many times, albeit still frustrating.
