A Cozy, Light-Hearted Feel
Revisado: 10-04-24
l liked this story overall. It was sweet, cozy, and comfortable with enough conflicts to move the plot forward. I didn't read or listen to anything I didn't want to. The performer was also perfect! Her voices, cadence, and pacing matched each part of the story to make is a worthwhile experience.

A Paranormal Medieval "Faery"tale
Revisado: 01-22-23
This was an excellent addition to this series. All the elements fit nicely within this story of "paranormal oddities." That's what I like about Lynn Kurland: She glues all the bizarreness together with humor to create a fun, lighthearted story that somehow makes sense! The main characters in this installment were enduring and sweet to one another while the side characters helped develop the story. I liked their romantic journey and I appreciate that serious consideration was given when when it came to making a choice. The narrator for this installment did a great job too with the accents and her use of inflection. She held my interest until the end.

Historia
Inspired by Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, Miss Sarah Meacham has always behaved circumspectly, until an emotional outburst directed at a well-deserved gentleman earns her the nickname of Miss Shrew. As a result, she vows to never trust - or love - again. But when her father decrees that her younger sister cannot marry the man of her dreams, until Sarah has secured a suitor of her own, she is faced with a dilemma: deny her sister marital bliss or feign an interest in the next gentleman to come along, at least until their father relents.

Entertaining and Sweet
Revisado: 06-30-22
This lovable story redeemed The Taming of the Shrew in my opinion. The framework of the Shakespeare's story was present but the characters were not only funny but respectful to one another. I also appreciated that the story remained lighthearted even at its most conflicted areas. This is due in small part to the frequent use of humor and the narrator's performance of it. Her blend of a Scottish-English accent was well done too. This was a very enjoyable read for me.

A Most Satisfying Read
Revisado: 06-17-22
This is how I like my high fantasy: full of adventure and action with little to no graphic cruelty. Sabriel is a true heroine, in my opinion, in the way she handles both herself and her situations. The romance was subtle, but meaningful enough to soften the story. The narrator was superb! I loved the way he depicted Mogget.

Worth It
Revisado: 04-24-22
This was a fun story with a fresh take on the enemies to lovers romance. Normally, I am not a fan of this trope bacause I've encountered too many authors who take things too far during the enemies phase, but Beene made this romance work by making her characters listen to one another and think. This process helped the characters grow to respect one another which then grew into something more. The character development was very satisfying!
I like to listen while I read, so I do not think the narration bothered me as much as it did others. The voices did not seem too out of place and I loved the emphasis on the sarcastic banter the narrator used. Overall, I found it worth the credit because I plan to read this book again!

A Wonderful Selection
Revisado: 03-23-22
These stories hit all the right notes that had me swooning and cheering! The selection of authors produced stories that felt complete for only being novellas. They were also very entertaining and fun with lovable characters. The narrator did each reading justice and kept me engaged with her inflection and voices. This one will be a keeper for me.

A Lovely Conclusion
Revisado: 02-19-22
This was a worthwhile listen. I found the perception interesting and I enjoyed the added elements of the new and fleshed-out characters. After the second book, I wasn't sure how the author would steer the story back onto it's respected path, but she did it well and successfully tied together the first two books to this conclusion. I enjoyed the narrator and the emphasis he placed in words and phrases to convey meaning and humor. In my opinion, the patience rendered by the listener through the series and through this last installment helps make the ending that much more satisfying.

A Decent Light Read
Revisado: 02-11-22
This is a good book with light romance, humor, and drama. I liked the premise of the story and the characters were fun. The drama aspect brought it down a little for me because the handling of the romantic conflict really didn't make sense. However, the performance of this story made it an entertaining enough listen to retain my attention until the end. It was certainly worth a listen.

Historia
Elizabeth Black is the headmistress of a girls' school in 1830s Victorian London. She is also a well-respected author of stories written both for and about the upper-class ladies of Victorian society. But by night, she writes very different kinds of stories - the Penny Dreadfuls that are all the rage among the working-class men. Under the pseudonym Charles King, Elizabeth has written about dashing heroes fighting supernatural threats, intelligent detectives solving grisly murders, and dangerous outlaws romancing helpless women.

A Fun, Entertaining Read
Revisado: 02-09-22
The smiles, sighs, and laughs made this a worthy addition to my library. It was like a 3-for-1 deal. I had so much fun listening to this clever story. It was clean, had little-to-no angst, and the author did a convincing job with the accents. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series.

A Rich Read
Revisado: 02-03-22
This is my favorite book by this author so far. The characters, the story, and the message cleverly woven within was wonderful. I found that everything was maticulously planned and nothing put into this book was excessive or wasted. The narrator also did a great job.
