What an excellent storyline set post civil war era! If you love historical fictions and enjoy a romance novel, this is a perfect, well written piece you’d be happy to read or listen to.

The cliffhanging was a wow-zer!!!

Can you say #CliffHanger? It def took too long to get to the suspense. Waaaaaayyyyy too long, but I was definitely not expecting how it turned out...which is the main idea behind a psych thriller, isn’t it? Now I’ll consider any psychotherapist I come in contact with quite carefully now 👀 This was just too much!

Appreciate the openness and representation

WOW! Just wow!!! #BasseyIkpi touches on mental health / illness and well-being in a way I haven’t seen it dealt with in a community notorious for sweeping anything mental health under the proverbial rug. ...the community of Blacks, Africans, Nigerians, immigrants. I def appreciate her willingness to share and be vulnerable as she continues on her journey of wellness. Her style of writing is also off the hook. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Seriously? Bahni Turpin narrates this?!!!

It is quite ridiculous that Audible has allowed Bahni Turpin to narrate this follow-up book. RIDICULOUS!!! Her rendition of a western African accent and pronunciations of Yoruba phrases are incorrect and often times change the meaning. I wonder if the author, Tomi Adeyemi, samples this audio narration. It sounds like rubbish! Bahni Turpin does a decent narration job on other works, I truly do appreciate her skills, but she is the wrong person to narrator this work. At best, the accent she taps into sounds more southern African than western. And her Yoruba skills are nonexistent. This narration job should have been given to a better trained narrator that is skilled in Yoruba intonations and familiar with western African accent. This work is one of the worst audios I’ve ever listened to.

Wow!

This book blew me away. It is a one-of-a-kind historical fiction. I love the suspense of the storyline and I found it nerve wrecking (in a good way...if that’s possible), entertaining, and educational as well. It accurately outlines the complications of the slaveholding south...how even those who appear to ‘mean well’ are after all a product of their time.

Great storyline from Nigeria

This was an easy breezy read story from Nigeria. I like that it wasn't what I expected. I look forward to more stories from Ms. Braithwaite. Audible could have done better with the narrator.

Great young adult read

It’s a Young Adult series. It didn’t get a bit raunchy until close to the end when they author began to develop 2 couples’ love interest. I think you could easily skip those three or four chapters and still get the gist if it just knowing that A likes B and X likes Y and keep it moving. Those little quirks irk me but I guess it’s almost protocols for writers. I’d let my 11 year old read it but ensure he skips those chapters. I appreciate it being afro-centric so he sees himself in a good work of art.

Loved every moment of the story. It is very informative. It's probably one of the most engaging piece of work that has helped me better understand the psychological damages of slavery.

Interesting read

Narrator was excellent. The book itself was interesting in terms of getting insight to how a SEAL thinks. As a Muslim, I was very guarded when i began listening/reading. I hear his pints and hue he justifies the killings but of course doubt that every one of his killings were justified. Really blows me how he is so certain no innocent lives went down by his hands.
