Historia
Miah Gray is a 27-year-old former army soldier living in rural New Hampshire with his sister, mother, and her boyfriend. He is plagued by PTSD, finding solace, but not redemption, with the aid of prescribed cannabis. All he wants to do is get high, relax with a good sandwich, and watch a meteor shower with his neighborhood crush, Jen. When the sun's light is blotted out the following morning and the world is plunged into darkness, Miah finds himself locked down with his family, covering windows with trash bags, lighting candles, and following the arcane rules of an ancient prophecy.

Everything was fine till he jumped the shark
Revisado: 09-25-21
slight spoiler. I was really enjoying this book. 7 hours in and I was really digging it's theme and the story - even got a bit of the horror tingles with a couple of bits, but then he jumped the shark and completely threw me off the plot.

Historia
The Martian meets Gravity when Army Pilot Vaughn Singleton, Earth’s last man, rushes to Area 51 in search of a spaceplane after he discovers the last woman is stranded on the International Space Station and barely alive - thus beginning a race against time. The event that wiped life from the planet started at the supercollider. It created a rift in space-time. The astronaut stranded aboard the space station, Commander Angela Brown, is a theoretical physicist who used to work at the collider.

Suspending disbelief isn't enough
Revisado: 10-12-18
Will be returning this book.
I painfully dragged myself all the way through it hoping for payoff but it never came.
I find that if you're writing a SciFi story you need to have some background to how things work or explanation of how they know what they are doing, but none of that was in this book. I found myself audibly groaning, and yelling at my car stereo in frustration at the implausible nature of so many events in the book. It often felt like a 10yo'ds story "they did this, and then this happened, and then they flew a space jet, and he did this" and then out of nowhere the ending pushed me over the edge. I already was giving it a 2/10, but then the event in the last minute of the book dropped it to a 1/10.
I actually feel bad for RC Bray (Narrator), he is incredible and I will listen to any book he is part of (the reason for listening to this book was solely because of him, and the dam cover art), but I wonder how he feels about this book...

Historia
Jason Burke was a man hiding from himself in a small cabin high in the American Rocky Mountains when his simple, quiet life was shattered one night by what he first assumed was an aviation mishap. But when he investigates the crash, what he finds will yank him out of his self-imposed exile and thrust him into a world he could have never imagined.

SciFi channel movie plot
Revisado: 07-19-17
Have you ever watched a SciFi channel movie and spent large chunks of it rolling your eyes or pointing at the TV and saying "that wouldn't actually happen like that!" or "how convenient they can just magically do that". well that's how this book felt to me.
I'm going to give the second book a try and hope that this first book was just a poor attempt to set up a back story for the second book, rather than just jumping in to the bigger story.
Having listened to Joshes other series, this first book didn't feel like him, but I'm hoping this was one of his earlier books and he learns along the way

Historia
Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

Just a little bit more please
Revisado: 09-20-15
Really liked the book, well read by Will Wheaton, and was a good story. I just felt like in the end you're left wanting to know more about the aliens and where they came from. it's almost like its waiting for another book to do that, but I don't see him writing a second book for this story line, so I feel robbed of answers.
Don't let that stop you from getting this book however, was still a good one

Historia
The colonists of the planet Montana are accustomed to being ignored. Situated in the buffer zone between two rival human empires, their world is a backwater: remote, provincial, independently minded. Even as a provisional member of the Republic of Aligned Worlds, Montana merits little consideration - until it becomes the flashpoint in an impending interstellar war. When pirate raids threaten to destabilize the region, the RAW deploys its mechanized armored infantry to deal with the situation.

Not the SciFi I hoped
Revisado: 02-06-15
OK look, it was a good book, but more of a political strategy story than a SciFi futuristic battle that I hoped it would be. If you're into the political strategy behind the war, then this book is for you (at some points, it felt like the author was trying to prove his knowledge of political chess). If you're into futuristic technology and action packed battle, look elsewhere
