Historia
Growing up Black in rural North Carolina, Ray McMillian’s life is already mapped out. But Ray has a gift and a dream—he’s determined to become a world-class professional violinist, and nothing will stand in his way. Not his mother, who wants him to stop making such a racket; not the fact that he can’t afford a violin suitable to his talents; not even the racism inherent in the world of classical music.

Great story. Great narrator. Great message.
Revisado: 01-02-23
I loved everything about this book. Although I guessed the “whodunnit” pretty early on, there were lots of interesting characters and story lines to keep things interesting. I am a violinist who loves all things classical music and it was fun to “geek out” to all the details about the history and beauty of violins as well as so many specific works that are close to my heart. I grew so fond of the main character - his passion for music, his humanity towards his difficult family, his tenacity and hard work. Which made me even more saddened about the discriminations that must still exist today. The way the main character was treated in many situations made the book often feel like it took place in a different era. It made my heart hurt to think this is still the reality today in some places. I hope this book helps to bring awareness and change to our society. Despite the darkness of so many themes including greed and prejudice and crime, the book manages to be upbeat and optimistic. The themes of redemption and overcoming trials prevail throughout. I came away uplifted. Lastly, I appreciate that although the romance was both sweet and sexy, the author kept it clean.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Amazing!! And I don’t even like Sci Fi
Revisado: 07-12-21
I debated whether or not to read this nerdy book for a while. Finally decided to give it a try. Once I started listening I couldn’t stop. I don’t even like science fiction, and the science and math went largely over my head, although what I did grasp was fascinating. But behind all of that is a beautiful story about friendship, integrity, altruism...it’s a tale with a lot of heart.
The narrator, Ray Porter, didn’t read this book, he performed it. He was absolutely genius with all his accents and dialects, which include Russian, Dutch, Canadian, Eridani, to name a few. He brought every character to like and gave each a lot of personality. He has a cadence which sounds a lot like Tom Hanks. Stunning.
The story reminded me a bit of 11/22/63 by Stephen King. Similar plot lines in that a school teacher enters a very different world and uses his know how to try to good. Give this book a try! I can’t recommend it more.

Historia
From the New York Times best-selling authors of America's First Daughter comes the epic story of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton - a revolutionary woman who, like her new nation, struggled to define herself in the wake of war, betrayal, and tragedy. In this haunting, moving, and beautifully written book, Dray and Kamoie used thousands of letters and original sources to tell Eliza's story as it's never been told before - not just as the wronged wife at the center of a political sex scandal but also as a founding mother who shaped an American legacy in her own right.

Don’t let the length of this book scare you off!
Revisado: 04-03-21
I downloaded this book a while ago, but kept delaying listening to it because...23 hours! But I finally decided to try it. It didn’t take long to be swept away by a fascinating look into the beginning years of our country’s origins. I found myself wondering what it would be like to be at that point in history looking bravely forward, not knowing how things would turn out, but making so many sacrifices for the potential of a new world. The politics amongst those early leaders were just as nasty as they are today. I learned a lot but also enjoyed the story line as much as any work of fiction. My Dear Hamilton was well researched, well written, and well narrated, and the 23 hour length only seemed like about 13 hours. Highly recommend!

Sweet clean story and great narration!
Revisado: 01-07-21
This book took me a while to get into. It’s not a thriller or even fast paced. But it simmered slowly until the characters took hold of my heart, and then I couldn’t stop listening. The narrator really brought the story, setting, and characters to life. Some of her dialogue voices were a bit over the top but I’m still giving her five stars because she truly created magic. Highly recommend this book especially for a sweet Christmas time feel good read.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

A new favorite!
Revisado: 12-03-20
This book kept me captivated from the beginning right to the end; and I was sad when it ended. Who hasn’t wondered “what might have been” if a different choice had been somewhere made along the way? And how do our decisions affect other lives? Things we will never really know. The author has created such a clever way to explore these questions and more. This literary work reads like a sweet dessert but carries the hearty soul-filling impact of meat and potatoes. It is a fun but substance-filled premise, and very well written. I rewound in several places just to enjoy beautifully phrased sentences again. Several profound sound bites that could make stand-alone wise quotes. Aside from a bit of language this book is relatively clean which is refreshing. The narrator was perfection as well. I dare you to read this book and not let it impact your life for the better. This is “It’s a Wonderful Life” amplified to next level! Well done, Matt Haig! I am your newest fan.

Historia
Shots rang out in Savannah's grandest mansion in the misty, early morning hours of May 2, 1981. Was it murder or self-defense? For nearly a decade, the shooting and its aftermath reverberated throughout this hauntingly beautiful city of moss-hung oaks and shaded squares. John Berendt's sharply observed, suspenseful, and witty narrative flows like a thoroughly engrossing novel, and yet it is a work of nonfiction.

Revisado: 11-17-20
I first read this book back in the 90’s and decided to listen now that I’m (finally!) going to visit Savannah, which has been on my bucket list since the first read through. Charming story line, colorful characters and well told. And this is the perfect narrator for this book. Highly recommend!

Separated from her family and forced to grow up in the leper colony of Kalaupapa, Rachel experiences intense isolation. But she remains strong, finding moments of joy, and even love. Adorable fun story!
Revisado: 08-24-20
I’m a fan of Beth O’Leary, so I’ve been looking forward to the release of “The Switch”. The story was sweet and fun and the characters endearing and likable. The narrators were both terrific, except they both sounded like they were eating peanut butter sandwiches between sentences. It drove me absolutely crazy throughout the entire book. I don’t know if this is an editing thing or a narrator thing but it was unbearably annoying. I hope it’s an editing thing because both narrators were delightful and I would love to listen to them again in different circumstances. The fact that I still listened to the entire book is a testament to how great this book is. If you’re looking for fun British romcom this is it! But if you have sensitivity issues with lip smacking sounds, skip the audible and buy a hard copy of the book :)
