From Mike Talbot's journal: "The End...has come and gone. This is the new beginning, the new world order and it sucks. The end for humanity came the moment the US government sent out the infected flu shots. My name is Michael Talbot and this is my journal. I'm writing this because no one's tomorrow is guaranteed, and I have to leave something behind to those who may follow."

Historia
In this Audible Exclusive production, Academy Award® nominee Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) narrates one of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Sense and Sensibility. In this timeless tale of misguided romance and heartbreak, two teenage heroines must overcome the pitfalls of Georgian England’s high society in order to achieve the love and happiness they seek. The admiration that Pike has for Austen’s work is shown clearly through this passionate delivery of Austen’s first published novel.

I was not a huge believer in putting true classics on audible. I was delightedly surprised to find I could not turn off my headset until the very end. I have all the Jane Austen hard back books. Reprints of course. I doubt I could find or afford an original copy. I do, however, plan to listen to other classic favorites soon!

My review of Karna
Revisado: 01-20-23
I love how the story took you from Karna’s childhood, his determination to get in with the Guru Master to continue his sword skill and other mater fighting skills for war.
His determination to win back his rightful King of his birthright land. Finally his awakening that he really did love and respect his wife when he burned the letter from the one women he could ever love. I hope they’ll be a sequel.

Why we think it’s a great listen: A masterpiece like none other, Brooks’ powerful performance of Haley’s words has been known to leave listeners in tears. It begins with a birth in an African village in 1750, and ends two centuries later at a funeral in Arkansas. And in that time span, an unforgettable cast of men, women, and children come to life, many of them based on the people from Alex Haley's own family tree.

Amazing story of the inhuman practice of slavery and the strength and perseverance of one family keeping alive their ancestry
Revisado: 02-14-21
Alex Haley has written a most powerful story showing first hand knowledge of the inhuman actions of white slave owners, going back to the abduction of his ancestor. In my opinion the book is more powerful than the movie. Both made me cry throughout for the injustice and because of the love and determination to keep the family together, the best they could. Alex made the book so informative that I felt I was taking the journey with him as he tracked down the records of the journey of his great, great, great grandfather.
I was born in 1952. I recall the fact that there was still injustice in our Nation. I was raised to let no hate in my heart or thoughts for any person, we are all children of God. As I got older, 7 or 8, and was shopping with my Mama I asked why there was different water fountains, restrooms and seating for blacks. Mama told me it was ignorance, fear and hate. By the time I entered high school I already had black girl friends. This grew to girls and boys throughout high school. I taught the same to my 3 daughters. I have biracial nieces abs nephews, my “bonus” daughter is also married to a black man I love dearly and their 3 children.
What I see today (2021) cannot be covered up by fear or ignorance. I know the majority of whites in the US do not have racism and hate in their hearts. But those that do, I believe is a learned hate. I have no answer on how to change their hearts. My pray is that they find truth someday and that people of all colors, races do not paint us all with the same brush.
I love the book, and movie. I recommend the book to anyone, especially those still hating people based on the color of their skin or nationality.

Awesome zombie series!!
Revisado: 06-22-18
I'll admit I never leave reviews, but figured after several times listening to the series I should contribute! Adrian's Undead Diary is an amazing zombie series (honestly, my favorite..& I've listened to a lot), and if you're into the genre at all I would highly recommend giving it a try. I love how the reader/listener really gets to know Adrian & bond with him through his daily journal entries - to me it is a unique way of storytelling compared to other zombie series I've listened to. It truly didn't take long at all for me to really feel invested in Adrian & his story.. He's definitely a likable character but has some guilt, & it makes some parts emotional as he talks about this. There is also some humor thrown in (sorta dry humor, but I like it!), so the series does make me both laugh & cry. The narrator James Foster does an awesome job throughout all eight books that are out so far!

Wonderful Epic Fantasy
Revisado: 05-31-16
The Banished of Muirwood was an exciting, engaging novel - one (as an Audible listener) I wanted to keep hearing more & more of. The fantasy world that Jeff Wheeler creates is unique and intriguing; there is magic thrown in without it being cliche, as is sometimes the case with so many fantasy works out there today. The work contains a perfect mix of action, drama, and suspense. The characters are well developed & interesting, especially the main character (Maia), & her protectors that help her along her journey to save her people. This book is also a breath of fresh air in that it does not contain profanity or other content inappropriate for younger readers. I cannot wait to start on the next in the series! Great writing & narration .. Highly recommend!!

Historia
Tesser, the dragon of life itself, is one of seven: Earth’s primordial draconic guardians, destined to oversee its development and safety. Species rose and fell, and 10,000 years ago...Tesser disappeared. The golden dragon woke up this morning, buried deep beneath the city of Boston, with no idea how he got there, and no idea how humanity grew so fast and learned so much while he was away. He is lost, a fish out of water. Where is the magic? He’s got a lot of catching up to do if he’s going to find his missing sister and stop an incursion of daemons from beyond the Veil.

Another amazing book by Chris Philbrook!!

Any additional comments?
I love everything I’ve read by Chris Philbrook, and this book certainly didn’t disappoint; it’s honestly one of the BEST books I’ve read in a good while. So good I’m listening to it for the 2nd time already!
So, it’s sort of difficult to write a review on a book I love so much that actually does it justice, but here goes.. This book is great for those who love fantasy, epic, & sci-fi; I love how Philbrook manages to throw in a good amount of humor, just the right amount of romance, and the story still has the feel of an epic. The interaction of ancient mythical/fantasy creatures with the modern world is done perfectly. The ancient dragons each have undeniably unique, magnificent qualities, and their characters are developed in a way that makes them seem so relatable that I find myself thinking “hey, I’d like to meet that dragon!” Of course the dragons are indeed powerful and dangerous, but they each use their powers to do their own unique duty to keep the “balance” and for the good of the world.
Of course Tesser is my favorite character, but I really love them all (except those evil Legion guys!). He has slept for a long time due to a battle with the Legion, and as he awakens he so eloquently describes memories of life as he knew it in his natural dragon form. Then as he realizes how much the world has changed, he obviously has a great deal of adjusting to do, which his descriptions of are some of my favorite parts. I love how he learns about “coFEEE” & pizza, the new “bartering system” (exchange of paper money), and of course his learning the proper use of curse words had me literally cracking up!
Since he is the Dragon of Life, I thought it only fitting that Tesser falls in love with a woman who had been deemed infertile after a previous miscarriage. Only after thinking about it more, did I realize the significance of that – his purpose is to help all species have a chance to thrive, so he is drawn to this woman who feels flawed and insecure because of her perceived inability to have children. His heroic defense of his love and his baby, as well as love for his dragon brothers and sisters make him such an admirable character.
I could go on and on about all the awesomeness of this book, but suffice to say I highly, HIGHLY recommend this book (as well as anything else by Chris Philbrook!). Readers should be quickly drawn in by Tesser, as the story is indeed compelling, and again contains the perfect combination of humor, romance, action, and fantasy. As always, James Foster does a superb job with narration and really brings the story to life!! His great performance of all the characters - whether male, female, dragon or human, left me feeling like I knew each of the characters by the end of the book!

Loved It.. A Unique Series!!
Revisado: 03-04-14
What did you love best about The Taker?
The story drew me in & kept me wanting more. I not only wanted to see where the future would take Luke & Lanny, but at the same time was captivated by the stories that developed over several centuries (of Adair, Lanore).
What other book might you compare The Taker to and why?
Hard to think of something outside of this series that compares.. It has some "fantasy/paranormal" components, in that most main characters are immortal; so, I suppose it could be compared to a series with vampires, demons, etc., but the characters in the Taker trilogy have unique features that sets them apart. I love fantasy/paranormal/sci-fi, & the author here really creates something that is more a work of literary fiction than the typical sci-fi/fantasy book.
Which character – as performed by Laurel Lefkow – was your favorite?
Lanny.. even though she has faults, she has virtues that make her likable as well.
Who was the most memorable character of The Taker and why?
Adair.. even though so volatile, he has a very complex past. Parts of his story are disturbing, but it's intriguing to see how it all fits together.
Any additional comments?
I'd love to read more by Alma Katsu!
