Historia
Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

secrets! secrets for days. I couldn't put it down. JG doesn't disappoint. I'm a fan of WW2 era books I got this recommendation from another reader who enjoys the same genre.
This book does touch on the war a little bit, but it's so much more than that. only a small portion is dedicated to a theater of combat and the rest centers around the fallout of an entire family due to circumstances beyond anyone's control. The men and women who die in a war are not the only people who lose their lives.

Historia
In 2008 veteran journalist Evan Wright, acclaimed for his New York Times best-selling book Generation Kill and co-writer of the Emmy-winning HBO series it spawned, began a series of conversations with super-criminal Jon Roberts, star of the fabulously successful documentary Cocaine Cowboys. Those conversations would last three years, during which time Wright came to realize that Roberts was much more than the de-facto “transportation chief” of the Medellin Cartel during the 1980s, much more than a facilitator of a national drug epidemic.

good narrator, but that's it
Revisado: 05-15-22
I made it about an hour in. Can't believe that this has so many good reviews. This dude is full of shit, plain and simple. It would be an interesting story if he'd just tell the truth. it's not like his life was boring without him having to embellish. This dude just can't help himself and he is such a narcissist. He's smarter than everyone, he's done more than everyone, he's killed more people and blah blah blah. The lies are just so outlandish.
it's all self serving bullshit, I'm surprised anyone was willing to print such drivel.
great job by the narrator though, really top notch delivery. I'd listen to the narrator again.

Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

always been a huge fan of WW2 era books. while this is fiction, it relies heavily on the history of the world at that time and it blends it all together nicely.

Historia
With more than half a million copies sold, Robert Mason's Chickenhawk is one of the best-selling books ever written about the Vietnam War. Fascinated with flying from a young age, Mason earned his private pilot's license even before graduating high school. He enlisted in the army in 1964 and endured an extremely challenging "weeding out" process in an effort to fly helicopters. Sent to Vietnam, he survived more than 1,000 air combat missions despite the violence and brutality exploding all around him.

excellent narrator
Revisado: 03-16-22
I enjoyed the book. it got a bit hard to follow sometimes due to the authors writing style. He doesn't set thins up very well when transitioning from one period to the next. It doesn't follow an exact linear path and there isn't any serious character building or story arc (intro, buildup, climax, outro).
still a good book and well worth the time for those who enjoy military memoirs. I'll reiterate, the narrator is fantastic. I wish he narrated every book I listen to.

horrible narrator. shouldn't be highly rated.
Revisado: 11-04-21
I'll start by saying that it's a very compelling story. lots of insight into what really happened and why.
the author doesn't do a very good job of building the characters into something that the reader can remember as they move thru the story. I would constantly get mixed up by all the names as the story sped right along. after a lot of rewinding and jotting some names down on paper, I was eventually able to get back on track. It also seems to follow the thoughts and actions of some guys more than others, but I'm not sure why. we start off with Jack being described in great detail and it makes it seem as if he's gonna be a main character. as I neared the end of the book I realized that Jack had played a very small part overall, and it confused me that the author had gone thru the trouble of painting Jack's character more vividly than others.
also, the narrator is garbage. hands down the worst I've ever heard. he isn't able to use different tones of voice to reflect the character dialogue, and he he just seems to drone right through his sentences. I couldn't believe that the narrator was the author. I'd never expect an author to so badly butcher his own work, there's absolutely zero effort put into the narration.
wish I hadn't bought this.

Historia
Paul Bäumer is just 19 years old when he and his classmates enlist. They are Germany’s Iron Youth who enter the war with high ideals and leave it disillusioned or dead. As Paul struggles with the realities of the man he has become, and the world to which he must return, he is led like a ghost of his former self into the war’s final hours. All Quiet is one of the greatest war novels of all time, an eloquent expression of the futility, hopelessness and irreparable losses of war.
