Historia
Sydney Shaw, like every single woman in New York, has terrible luck with dating. She’s seen it all: men who lie in their dating profile, men who stick her with the dinner bill, and worst of all, men who can't shut up about their mothers. But finally, she hits the jackpot. Her new boyfriend is utterly perfect. He's charming, handsome, and works as a doctor at a local hospital. Sydney is swept off her feet. Then the brutal murder of a young woman—the latest in a string of deaths across the coast—confounds police. The primary suspect? A mystery man who dates his victims before he kills them.

Incredibly clichéd
Revisado: 11-13-24
Very bland and predictable story full of clichés and inexplicable behaviour from the protagonists. The "twist" was evident long before it happened. In terms of narration, the female narrator did her best with what was in front of her, but the male narrator turned the teenager's part into an annoying high pitch that was genuinely difficult to listen to at times.

Really strong and gripping first half, but it started meandering and losing its appeal in the second. It could have been significantly shorter and punchier. A real shame given how interesting the premise is!

Hugely disappointing sequel
Revisado: 08-25-24
Sadly, this book doesn't come close to living up to either of the previous two. There's none of the familiar mystery, intrigue and twists. Instead we have hours and hours of banal domestic life and characters who are completely one dimensional. It's a really sad way to end this trilogy; if you're coming here excited for a third exciting Housemaid tale, I'd advise you to just skip this one and save yourself the disappointment.

It’s the opening night of The Manor, the newest and hottest luxury resort, and no expense, small or large, has been spared. The infinity pool sparkles; the “Manor Mule” cocktail (grapefruit, ginger, vodka, and a dash of CBD oil) is being poured with a heavy hand. Everyone is wearing linen.

Ruined by narrator's Irish "accent"
Revisado: 06-27-24
I'm a fan of the author and tried my best to enjoy this story, but I had to stop listening.
The narrator has an unusual singsong voice, but worst of all are her borderline offensive, parodying Irish accent attempts. It's ridiculous that for a book set in Ireland, full of dialogue from Irish people, the publishers found a narrator who couldn't get remotely close to the accents, and couldn't pronounce even the most basic Irish names and places. She can't even pronounce the name of the town the book is set in! She just breezes through, repeatedly saying it incorrectly.
English people making a mockery of the Irish accent is unfortunately an age-old sport, and it's incredibly sad to see that here against the work of a fabulous Irish writer. Do better, folks.

Don't waste your time
Revisado: 01-11-23
I'm actually stunned. This was shaping up to be one of the most entertaining books I've listened to in a while, but the last two chapters? The ending might as well have been "and it was all a dream". The author seems to have just not known how to finish this. Dreadful.
