A little disappointing
Revisado: 05-31-03
Overall, I thought the tape was disappointing.
The tape is based on the concept that what you see in others that you like or dislike is just a reflection of those qualities that you like or dislike in yourself or that you have not allowed expression or integration (ie. the shadow). There are a few Q&A sessions (about 30mins) where she shows people how this works in response to their questions. However, Shakti doesn't really go beyond the basic concept of identifying how this shows up (ie. if your boss, lover, family member says or does something that pushes your buttons, that's a good indicator of something within your own consciousness that's not had expression). She also briefly touches on how we're attracted to our reciprocal opposite and after a while the very things we liked about them we end up hating (because they're reflections of us that we haven't developed).
I was disappointed as I had hoped she would develop the idea further and perhaps explore the Masculine/Feminine polarities, how to practically integrate the shadow, how we can consciously use people and situations in our lives to learn, none of this was delved into. I'm also becoming more conscious now of when authors make generalisations based on the 'New Age' type beliefs as though they were TRUE and Shakti sometimes does this. It can be very subtle and I think that the reader/listener has to explore/sit with/try out these concepts and get a sense of what is true for them rather than taking them at face value - a tape a record of a point of time and the author can change their beliefs afterward (As I grow and develop I know I do!). In summary, this recording is really a very basic look at using relationships as mirrors, there is little beyond the basic concepts discussed here. The recording is otherwise well presented and it was interesting to hear her talk at a live presentation.
