Historia
1796. John Pearce is stuck with a difficult mission, a crew of Quota Men forced to enlist in the Royal Navy, four new midshipmen as well as Samuel Oliphant, companion cum spy, whom he finds a constant irritant. In his favour, he commands HMS Hazard, a speedy warship, a pair of competent officers and, of course, his trusty friends the Pelicans. Their mission is to head for the Mediterranean Fleet and warn Admiral Sir John Jervis of impending danger he will face, fighting a combined French/Spanish fleet.

The. character of Pierce and his pelicans and his fast thinking.
Revisado: 06-25-24
The Scottish accent is decidedly thick for Pierce as opposed to previous narrators. Sometimes it is a distraction to easy understanding of a fast moving narrative.

But before the rebels can kill him, a daring U.S. secret agent joins his side. In a harsh and untamed land, Frank Morgan will soon face the ultimate battle for survival - before an all-out civil war explodes.

Revisado: 03-23-24
It was exactly as advertised. Gripping story with heroes you care about. The scenery described and the sounds that accompany the drama move the story in a cohesive and picturesque melody.

Historia
The greatest naval trial in the Georgian period is underway at Portsmouth with the court-martial of Sir Home Popham, Captain Sir Thomas Kydd's commanding officer in the doomed occupation of Buenos Aires. Kydd has some sympathy for Popham's unauthorised action, but his support for his former commander leaves him athwart some very influential people in the admiralty. With his frigate L'Aurore unfit for sea, Kydd is given a commission that some hope will destroy his career.

Story abounds with characters adding reality and engaging conversation while facing substantial adversity. Kydd's efforts are brilliant while nursing personal doubts. He faces a mutinous crew while living through admiralty cruelty. Great good fun!

Detective story with bizarre parallel love stories
Revisado: 02-11-23
You're going to witness the depth of character development that we are used to by Mr. Parker! As Jesse investigates falls in love with another woman and trains his adorable love connection to his ex-wife, Jen. Best if listened in doses. When your scene slows, take a break. Do your task or chores. Then come back in a reasonable time and listen to the next scene. (Just don't wait 'til you forget where you are!) It is a long investigation but Suit and Mollie add comedic and critical commentary to help ease the way. A skilled tome worth the read!

Great story. Presentation needs review and editing
Revisado: 01-31-23
Mr. O'Shaughnessy's performance is not bad, but it ain't great. He lacks much energy in his voice. His characterizations from character to character lacks much distinction. Then the paper shuffles and gasping for air at chapter 33 or so, severely detracts from his effort.

Historia
Relentless Pursuit is the freshest Bolitho novel in years, with Adam spending as much time engaging British enemies in the 46-gun frigate Unrivalled as he does contemplating the complex morality of the duties he must perform. Sent to Sierra Leone, Adam and his powerful ship add strength to the British squadron attempting to halt the slave trade. Aggravating this volatile situation is the Dey of Algiers, looking for total war.

A First Person narrative can be trying to sustain
Revisado: 10-29-22
First person narrative is unique in my library of L'Amour titles. Michael Crough does a great job of presenting the main character and dramatising his development from adolescent to man in a few months time. Mr. L'Amour delivers wondrous vistas as backdrops. Details are pervasive of the period.

Historia
Louis L'Amour is now one of the most iconic Western writers of all time, but once upon a time he was Jim Mayo, a regular writer for the pulps. Some of the tales he wrote in those days stuck with him enough that he later revised and expanded them into novels. But there was a special magic to the originals, and after research and restoration, these stories appear here now in their original form.

Enjoyed the logic and shrewdness of the hero. I don't jnow why but the characters always trip over romance. Great yarn entirely.
