Ridiculous!
Revisado: 01-26-25
This book is stupid & was painful to continue with. I have been on psych wards & nothing is realistic about this. The medical student made poor choices & that is not how things work.

Predictable Characterization
Revisado: 10-18-24
The main character is a damsel in distress the entire time. She is a really one dimensional character. That bored me.

Predictable
Revisado: 07-10-24
I thought the first half of the book was good, but then things seemed repetitive. It was predictable, so there weren't those plot twists one wasn't expecting. I really wanted to love it, because Lisa Stone is the same author as Cathy Glass. Cathy Glass books are amazing stories about her as a foster carer. I would have never guessed that the same author would write books from 2 very separate genres.

Disliked Male Narration & Somewhat Boring
Revisado: 09-06-23
I was completely thrown off by the male narrator on the audiobook when this is about a female's experience. The other books I read had a female narrator.
I am unable to get to the end of this book, because of both the narration & the fact that Jacob doesn't do much compared to children in her other books. It's just Louise talking about him.
I have read 3 other books by Allen & they were all excellent. They easily received 5 star ratings.

Historia
According to Confucius, “an educated woman is a worthless woman,” but Tan Yunxian—born into an elite family, yet haunted by death, separations, and loneliness—is being raised by her grandparents to be of use. Her grandmother is one of only a handful of female doctors in China, and she teaches Yunxian the pillars of Chinese medicine, the Four Examinations—looking, listening, touching, and asking—something a man can never do with a female patient.

Disappointing- Don't read if you love Chinese Medicine
Revisado: 06-09-23
This book was extremely disappointing. I preordered it, because I love Lisa See's books. I felt some of the character development was lacking. The main problem I had is that most of the book is about Chinese medicine & it was a very poor representation of TCM. She does acknowledge that she is not a practitioner of TCM. It may be enjoyable for those who have no experience with TCM. I am not Asian, but I feel like there were way too many stereotypes going on. I don't think it shows Chinese people or Chinese Medicine in a good light. I was bored with the main character.

Murder Story or Romance Novel?
Revisado: 07-13-20
I think this book could have been much better if they left out all of the romance novel type scenes. Focus on the story, not sex!
