Historia
While Joe Kennedy was grooming his sons for the White House and the Senate, his Stanford-educated daughter Eunice was tapping her father's fortune and her brothers' political power to engineer one of the great civil rights movements of our time on behalf of millions of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Now, in Eunice, Pulitzer Prize winner Eileen McNamara finally brings Eunice Kennedy Shriver out from her brothers' shadow.

Outstanding Biography
Revisado: 07-02-18
Eunice Kennedy Shriver was a brilliant, ambitious, compassionate woman who was ahead of her time. She never stopped trying to improve the lives of children who are born with extra challenges--and to show that when some of us do better, we all do better. Within my own family, we have children with special needs who continue to benefit from Eunice's work!
The book is extremely well written. I listened to the audible book at 1.25 speed and found the reader to be excellent.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Phenomenal Book
Revisado: 11-21-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Born a Crime to be better than the print version?
Trevor Noah himself narrates this book. He is fluent in a variety of languages including several from South Africa. Because his pronunciation is perfect for every voice in the book, I highly recommend the audio edition.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Trevor and his brilliant mom are both witty. They are filled with joy, zest for living, courage, love for family, and resilience.
What does Trevor Noah bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Because of Trevor Noah's own narration, the listener gets to hear South African characters speaking with proper accents and intonation.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I kept telling my husband, "Oh, this is the BEST book!" and "You must read this book." I want to share this book with everyone. The author makes me laugh at the same time that he touches my heart.
Any additional comments?
Trevor Noah's stories helped me understand more about South Africa, especially the meanings of race, gender, and class. An excellent book can make learning painless.

Historia
On a rainy, cold day in November, young Victor - a nomadic, scrappy teenager who's run away from home - sets out to sell as much marijuana as possible to the throng of WTO demonstrators determined to shut down the city. With the proceeds, he plans to buy a plane ticket and leave Seattle forever, but it quickly becomes clear that the history-making 50,000 antiglobalization protestors - from anarchists to environmentalists to teamsters - are testing the patience of the police, and what started out as a peaceful protest is threatening to erupt into violence.

Gorgeous Prose, Superbly Narrated
Revisado: 02-21-16
What made the experience of listening to Your Heart Is a Muscle the Size of a Fist the most enjoyable?
The author developed the inner life of each of the main characters. Aaron Landon was a phenomenal narrator.
Any additional comments?
Chapters alternate to tell the story of seven characters fighting for peace, for change, and for power. I liked learning about the 1999 protests in Seattle related to the World Trade Organization via a brilliantly written novel.

Historia
This transcendent story follows four college friends who move to New York City, buoyed by ambition: Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, an artist; Malcolm, an architect; and, at the center, Jude, a withdrawn, brilliant attorney haunted by an unspeakable past. Through decades of shared and separate lives, Jude’s suffering - and its impact on those who love him - raises questions about the limits of human endurance, the possibility for redemption, and the meaning of friendship.

Brilliantly Written and Performed!
Revisado: 10-19-15
Would you consider the audio edition of A Little Life to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version.
Which character – as performed by Oliver Wyman – was your favorite?
Upon reflection, Jude is my favorite character. Jude's emotions ranged through despair, helplessness, confidence, happiness, shame, joy, anger, sorrow, rage, grief, sadness, love... The gentle narration by Oliver Wyman gave Jude an exceptional voice.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were countless moments that moved me. I'll mention one of my favorites from Chapter 26 when Jude threw the sandwich and plate against the wall. Harold and Julia wrapped their loving arms around Jude; Harold called him "sweetheart", signifying a parental term of endearment.
Any additional comments?
My emotional life has been taken over while listening to this intense, amazing book. I will never forget this extraordinary experience.

In the familiar setting of Holt, Colorado, home to all of Kent Haruf's inimitable fiction, Addie Moore pays an unexpected visit to a neighbor, Louis Waters. Her husband died years ago, as did his wife, and in such a small town they naturally have known of each other for decades; in fact, Addie was quite fond of Louis's wife.

Trite, silly plot with flat, lifeless characters
Revisado: 01-26-15
What disappointed you about Mrs. Poe?
The main characters were flat and lifeless. The author inserted the names of famous people living at the time who did not add to the trite plot. The book is fiction rather than what I had hoped would be historically factual.
What do you think your next listen will be?
