The book feels like the banter college educated adults might have over a few drinks, sharing bits of insight, personal experience, and humor, but not deep research. There were occasional interesting anecdotes, but I don't expect most people who have thought about their own socioeconomic positions and sought out this book to learn very much. It is more about painting a picture of the author's feelings of privilege (the author refers to herself as an artist), rather than a deep dive into issues and solutions. That's not necessarily bad, but not what I was looking for and not what I expected before starting the book.

As others have noted, most of the book is a sales pitch for her course. Out of 19 chapters, one is spent on the actual technique and it is made clear this is an abbreviated version, rather than the full Ziva technique, which is taught elsewhere. It is relatively easy to find meditation techniques and the author does note that there are many out there. A valuable use of the other 18 chapters would have been to outline the most popular types of meditation and the scientific evidence for their relative benefits, helping the reader choose a technique. The book does not do this either. In fact, the author carelessly throws around scientific claims with little or no evidence. The worst example was the claim that when your body moves faster than it can run, it is stressful for your body.

I thought one valuable thing this audiobook did provide was five examples of how internal thought processes could go in a meditation session. I think that is something students are often left wondering.

This book was very disappointing. The story was simple and as another reviewer mentioned, every conflict was quickly resolved, leaving the protagonist better off than he had been before. He never grapples with any truly difficult or complex concepts or situations. He gets exactly what he wants, and his life purpose is told to him by others.

The main character falls in love at first sight, without any building of a relationship, which is actually pretty representative of the entire story. The woman's stated purpose, by the way, is to love the man and wait for him as he goes off and fulfills his purpose.

Overall the story is very shallow, but in terms of plot and underlying themes.

This audiobook was not terrible, but given the large number of positive reviews, I'll highlight the things I did not like. After listening to this, I could not tell you what I learned. There were nuggets of wisdom, but they were buried in what I would consider a lot of fluff. She spent more time describing how she felt about learning/discovering the things she presents than she did on the actual concepts.

In general it also peeves me when opinions are presented as fact. The content is subjective, which is fine, but she unnecessarily peppers it with words like "research," "data," and "truth" to sound more factual. Yes, I know she is a researcher and she does qualitative research. I cannot comment on her research in general, but if she has conducted research on the topics in this book, I don't believe it was convincingly presented here.
