Historia
Charles Gould (1834-1893) was fascinated by the ornithological specimens he collected on his journeys around the globe. Mythical Monsters is the result, and is a classic of crypto-zoology, the study of unknown creatures. The book includes sections on the unicorn, the phoenix, and the dragon.

bad impression
Revisado: 04-25-21
Can hardly enjoy it with the narrator slipping into absurd accents and voices for each quote and reference. Highlights include one that sounds like Sean connery and another that sounds like a dated stereotypical Asian impression.

The flaws of Mr. Keel
Revisado: 04-14-21
While credit is due to John Keel for recording and spreading many fascinating legends of the anomalous, his credulous embellishing is impossible to ignore. During the first few chapters alone Keel exposes his own ignorance and calls spiders "insects" and bats "flying rodents". If we can't trust him with elementary school biology it would be foolish to trust his scholarly and historical work as well.

A fun retelling of some classic and obscure monster legends. Told with a healthy grain of salt, the stories may be too simplified for well read paranormal fans.

Historia
The mysticism and fairy folklore of Celtic England, Scotland, the Isle of Man, Brittany, and Wales is explored in this production, which focuses on interviews conducted with everyday citizens about their beliefs, sightings, and encounters in the early 20th century, followed by an anthropological examination of evidence. It is an exploration of the spirit world, of the Sidhe, the "good people", who are claimed to interact mischievously with the populace - sometimes even abducting them and leaving only the victims' clothes behind, transporting them far distances, and killing livestock.

The Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot, and the yeti have long held a fascination for people the world over. Debates about their actual existence or what they might really be have continued for decades, if not centuries. Known also as cryptids, they have spawned a body of research known as cryptozoology.

Historia
The world is not what we think it is. The individuals whose experiences you are about to hear know that only too well, since nothing in their lives had prepared them for their encounters with things that are not supposed to happen - but did! Events like these remain hidden because those they happen to are afraid to speak out of a natural reluctance to have their sincerity or sanity questioned. Societies define their own realities and those who challenge them do so at their own peril. The moral seems to be that where these kinds of events are concerned, ignorance is the best policy.

High strangeness classics
Revisado: 12-02-20
Interesting and bizarre stories of anomalous events, from the always interesting FATE magazine. Unfortunately, it suffers a bit from a derisive and dismissive response to skepticism in any form. All to common in Fortean literature, as any genuinely interested skeptic soon learns. My biggest complaint is our poor narrator, fumbling and butchering his way through the big words at a laughable rate. Some of his mispronounciations are so bad it's not even close, Reincarnation comes out as "re-in-carstination". Still worth a listen.

There are a lot of paranormal books on audible, I find the topic fascinating, but I'm not a fan of credulous speculation. This is a great study of the popular UFO legends from a much more rational point of view than often put forward.
