Historia
Here is a classic novel from one of our most honored writers - the author of such acclaimed works as So Long, See You Tomorrow and All the Days and Nights. The Folded Leaf is the serenely observed yet deeply moving story of two boys finding one another in the Midwest of the 1920s, when childhood lasted longer than it does today and even adults were more innocent of what life could bring.

Historia
She used to work for the US government, but very few people ever knew that. An expert in her field, she was one of the darkest secrets of an agency so clandestine it doesn't even have a name. And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning. Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They've killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.

Great listen
Revisado: 06-02-17
This was probably the best narration I've run into. Ellen Archer did a great job with her voices, and energy level as she read. Sometimes narrators can kill a story if they use strange voices or have the wrong energy in their voices, but Archer nailed this. I think I enjoyed her narration more than the story, and the story was pretty good.

Historia
In the fifth century BC, a global superpower was determined to bring truth and order to what it regarded as two terrorist states. The superpower was Persia, incomparably rich in ambition, gold, and men. The terrorist states were Athens and Sparta, eccentric cities in a poor and mountainous backwater: Greece. The story of how their citizens took on the Great King of Persia, and thereby saved not only themselves, but Western civilization as well, is as heart-stopping and fateful as any episode in history.

Historia
We are accustomed to think of sociopaths as violent criminals, but in The Sociopath Next Door, Harvard psychologist Martha Stout reveals that a shocking 4 percent of ordinary people, one in 25, has an often undetected mental disorder, the chief symptom of which is that that person possesses no conscience. He or she has no ability whatsoever to feel shame, guilt, or remorse. One in 25 everyday Americans, therefore, is secretly a sociopath.

Interesting
Revisado: 01-09-17
The stories were definitely interesting that were presented in this book, but I didn't find the book very informative. It was more of a fear-mongering kind of work of its own.... which is ironic given some of the psychology the author is getting across.

Historia
When the 160 men of Charlie Company were drafted by the US Army in May 1966, they were part of the wave of conscription that would swell the American military to eighty thousand combat troops in Vietnam by the height of the war in 1968. In the spring of 1966 the war was still popular, and the draftees of Charlie Company saw their service as a rite of passage. But by December 1967, when the company returned home, only thirty men were not casualties.

Terribly difficult to enjoy
Revisado: 01-06-17
I wasn't a fan. Other people may really love this, but it wasn't for me. I didn't like the way the author portrayed so many people at once. I think there are better books to help people appreciate the struggle of Vietnam vets or of war in general.

I found myself glued to this story the whole way through since I wasn't really familiar enough with the Donner party to know who survived and who didn't. It was a very harrowing ordeal and it was very clear the author did his research.

Revisado: 12-10-16
This wasn't all that enjoyable. The bits with Merlin and Arthur were fine, but the love affair involving Lancelot wasn't enjoyable at all for me. I found all of his excuses despicable and yet he couldn't be portrayed as anything but virtuous and great. Same with her.

Historia
It's difficult to imagine a nation with a history more compelling for Americans than Russia. Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, this was the nation against which we measured our own nation's values and power and with whom war, if it ever came, could spell unimaginable catastrophe for our planet.Yet many Americans have never had the opportunity to study Russia in depth, and to see how the forces of history came together to shape a future so different from the dreams of most ordinary Russian people, eager to see their nation embrace Western values of progress, human rights, and justice.

Historia
Paul Bäumer is just 19 years old when he and his classmates enlist. They are Germany’s Iron Youth who enter the war with high ideals and leave it disillusioned or dead. As Paul struggles with the realities of the man he has become, and the world to which he must return, he is led like a ghost of his former self into the war’s final hours. All Quiet is one of the greatest war novels of all time, an eloquent expression of the futility, hopelessness and irreparable losses of war.
