Revisado: 02-10-24
I actually liked the story and I did enjoy the narrator for the most part but there was a few things that made me cringe. First being the voice of the main male character. Every time I heard it the voice reminded me of someone trying to imitate a 90s emo teenager lol. The second is more my problem but it made me want to dig my nails in my palm every time I heard it. Look I know as a author you have to stay up to date with the current reading audience, but I’ve been reading JAK for 20 years and every single time she said 20th century or mid 20th century I internally cringed. I’m only 42 and saying that made me feel 99 lol but like I said that’s more my problem.

How the monarchs of England and Scotland met their deaths has been a wonderful mixture of violence, infections, overindulgence and occasional regicide. In Mortal Monarchs, medical historian Dr Suzie Edge examines 1,000 years of royal deaths to uncover the plots, accusations, rivalries and ever-present threat of poison that the kings and queens of old faced.

Incredible story teller

I saw this writer on TikTok doing a clip about how the current monarchy is related to Anne Boleyn through her sister Mary. I was hooked. Not only is her story telling ability wonderful but her voice is smooth and inviting.

Great story, but narrator kinda ehhh
Revisado: 06-27-22
This was a great story, I actually read the book years ago. I did find the narrator’s voice a little annoying at times when she read Jacks parts. For a tough physic he came off kinda whiny with a sore throat at times. I really wish audible would hire both male and female narrator’s to read. I truly believe it would enhance the listening experience.

Historia
Gideon Frayne has spent his whole working life as a policeman in the village of Dark on Bodmin Moor. His first missing-child case is eating him alive. When his own boss sends in a psychic to help with the case, he's gutted - he's a level-headed copper who doesn't believe in such things, and he can't help but think that the arrival of clairvoyant Lee Tyack is a comment on his failure to find the little girl. But Lee is hard to hate, no matter how Gideon tries. At first Lee's insights into the case make no sense, but he seems to have a window straight into Gideon's heart.

One of my all time favorite books
Revisado: 03-05-21
I have read this book twice so when I saw the audible version I bought it again. The story line is original, and the plot keeps you on edge. I love the heroine of this book. She is brave without being the kind of woman that constantly puts herself in danger to prove she’s independent like so many other Victorian era books I have read. The hero of the book is manly without being overbearing and the take charge type of the era. Love the twists and they connect nicely without being ridiculously outlandish. I also would love a tessen of my own!! Elegant and deadly. :)

Revisado: 02-10-21
I was weary of buying this book because I felt only mehh about the first one of the blue stone series but I’m glad I took a chance. I enjoyed this story a lot. The first story irritated me because it felt like a miss mash of harmony and arcane books but seemingly disregarded the books I’ve spent years reading. However this book made mention of arcane and the Jones clan. I personally find it hard to swallow that a paranormal organization called the foundation has no prior knowledge of the powerful Jones family or the arcane society but it is what it is. Just those few mentions gave me hope that the series will in some time blend eventually. My personal hope is that this series becomes the origin story of harmony and ghost hunters guild, but that’s just a little wishful fan fantasy. The only reason I gave the performance a four star was because the readers voice could get painfully screechy at times. All in all, good story, good performance and I’m looking forward to the next book.

Historia
Vivian Brazier never thought life as an art photographer would include nightly wake-up calls to snap photos of grisly crime scenes or headshots for aspiring male actors. Although she is set on a career of transforming photography into a new art form, she knows her current work is what’s paying the bills. After shooting crime scene photos of a famous actress, the latest victim of the murderer the press has dubbed the “Dagger Killer,” Vivian notices eerie similarities to the crime scenes of previous victims details that put Vivian at the top of the killer’s target list.

Very enjoyable, However...
Revisado: 02-03-21
I actually really enjoyed the story. I’ve read a lot of reviews lately saying how JAK has become predictable and has run out of story plots. This one to me says that although her writing style is very clear, she can still write a great story. I’m a little meh on the revelation in the conclusion. It got a little , well for lack of a better word lazy. I don’t want to give away the ending so all I can say was that the reason why the heroine was being hunted fell flat for me and the villains were boring. That is the reason it only got 4 stars from me. Now for the narrator. She was clear spoken, but that’s all I can say good about the performance. Her inflection in some of the more dramatic scenes was flat and didn’t draw me in like I should have been. Their was absolutely no anxiety build up to the more dramatic parts of the story simply because the narrators tone didn’t convey any. All in all if you are new to JAK aka Amanda Quick I think you will like the story and will like all the burning cove stories prior. If you are an established JAK fan you might feel a little let down towards the end of the book. Also, and this is just my personal opinion. I have always liked that JAK books never went into raunchy love scenes to sell books. Do t get me wrong their isn’t anything wrong with them I just prefer thrilling mystery based stories with a little bit of passion as the characters relationship builds up. This book however. Well now that I’m thinking back I’m considering 3 stars. The relationship for the hero and heroine was just off for some reason. It didn’t seam like a very passionate or exciting relationship. They were likable enough, but it just seamed blah. The sex scene was kinda goofy and awkward. Idk like I said just my opinion.

Historia
Decades ago in the small town of Fogg Lake, The Incident occurred: an explosion in the cave system that released unknown gases. The residents slept for two days. When they woke up they discovered that things had changed - they had changed. Some started having visions. Others heard ominous voices. And then, scientists from a mysterious government agency arrived. Determined not to become research subjects of strange experiments, the residents of Fogg Lake blamed their "hallucinations" on food poisoning, and the story worked. Now the eerie effects are showing up in Fogg Lake descendants.

Great for new J.A.K readers!!
Revisado: 01-19-21
Let’s start by saying, if you are new to Jayne Ann Krentz then you will really enjoy the story. This book was good and I like the characters and plot.
However, if you are a J.A.K fan then this book feels like a slap in the face for all the years I’ve put into the Arcane and Jones stories as well as the harmony series books.
The story line was just to similar to her past books. I felt frustrated that she took the basis of Arcane and Harmony and twisted it into a new story line where the world of Jones and Arcane apparently doesn’t exist. She erased all we have learned over the years about paranormal abilities and the people who use their gifts to catch likewise bad people. I just don’t see it, nor can I appreciate it knowing what I know about her past works.
The reading performance
Although I didn’t find her voice as annoying as other reviewers said it was, I did find that towards the end she kept changing the tone and style of the characters speech.
I’m sorry I couldn’t give a better rating, but as an Arcane and harmony reader I can’t just erase years of character development.
