Historia
It was 1940, and many of the younger members of the Adams family were caught up in the war in France. Boots, now a major and on the staff of General Sir Henry Simms, was one of the thousands of British troops trying to escape in the armada of little boats from Dunkirk. His son, Tim, and nephew, Bobby, were also struggling to reach the coast and safety, while Eloise was with the ATS awaiting the homecoming soldiers at Portsmouth with a comforting cup of tea and a ticket home. Boots and Tim both made it safely back, but of Bobby, there was no sign, and the family all feared the worst.

I felt ALL of the things.
Revisado: 08-08-23
By now, you either love the Adam's Family, or you wouldn't be this far into the series. So to be as far as book 12, and still ready to purchase and download the next book as soon as this one ended, is a feat all on its own. I won't spoil anything, but this book went in a very different direction towards the last few chapters. If you are a lover of WW2 history, you know the devastating consequences of the air raids, and I will leave it at that. MJ Staples accomplished the same feelings in book 12, as he evoked from reading books 1 and 2. I laughed, a lot - Susie and Sammie will always make me giggle, and so will Freddie and Cassie. I also bawled my eyes out, big fat wet tears streamed down my face for about 2 chapters. Going forward, until we are out of the WW2 time-frame, I will worry for every member of The Adam's Family.

Historia
There was a new family in Browning Street, Walworth - the Harrisons. Respectable and well-behaved, the only thing unusual about them was that Mr Harrison was never there. He was a sailor, said Ma Harrison, away fighting pirates in the China Seas. Actually, 'Knocker' Harrison was in Marsham Gaol - he had unfortunately burgled a lady's suite when she happened to be there. Pa wasn't really a very good burglar.

Revisado: 07-19-23
I really do love this series. As an American, I find the Cockney way of life so fascinating! Even more so in the years, this series takes place. I did want to recommend switching books 7 & 8 around. It was very confusing when listening to them in the recommended order. So if I were to listen again, I would go book #8 Pride of Walworth, then book #7 Echoes of Yesterday! Regardless, I was able to follow the stories just fine, and enjoyed them both!

Historia
It was June 1916 when Sergeant Boots Adams of the Royal West Kents, together with his men, was billeted on the Descartes farm in Northern France. It was a short break from the turmoil and horror of the trenches, and Boots and his men, in return for their free billeting, were to help the farmer in his fields. It came as something of a surprise to discover that the land was being managed by a young French war widow, Cecile Lacoste and, to the distant sound of guns, a brief wartime friendship flared between Boots and Cecile.

Wyoming, 1876. For as long as they have lived on the frontier, the Bemis and Webber families have relied on each other. With no other settlers for miles, it is a matter of survival. But when Ernest Bemis finds his wife, Cora, in a compromising situation with their neighbor, he doesn’t think of survival. In one impulsive moment, a man is dead, Ernest is off to prison, and the women left behind are divided by rage and remorse.

This was a DNF for me. The story was okay, the narration should have been at the very least a female/male. But it really could have benefited from a multicast narration. Historical Fiction is my preferred genre, I've read a lot of Westerns/Frontier novels, and I know hunting, slaughtering and violence is apart of the story. However, that doesn't mean I enjoy an entire section of a book slaughtering lambs, and very cruelly killing a coyote. I couldn't get past that chapter, and the story wasn't good enough for me to want to keep going. I was over half way finished with this book, I gave it an honest try. Returned it for my credit back.

I came bc of BookTok
Revisado: 09-08-22
This is my first Colleen Hoover book, it was free with my audible membership and it is ALL OVER "BookTok" on TikTok. CoHo (what her fans call her) has a cult like following on social media, so her books (especially this one) are reviewed constantly. I went in to this expecting a good twist, but also with low expectations - so I wasn't let down. It's a short listen, I wouldn't have used a credit on it. I am glad I listened, I'm satisfied with the book overall. It's not a literary piece of art, but it was an intriguing listen while I did my laundry and ran my errands. The ending definitely will have me looking at other readers opinions, and theories as to what they think the truth is.

Historia
When Jenny inherits her estranged grandmother’s cottage in Sherwood Forest, she has nothing to lose - no money, no job, no friends, no family to speak of, and zero self-respect. Things can only get better.... Her grumpy but decidedly handsome new neighbour, Mack, has a habit of bestowing unsolicited good deeds on her. And when Jenny is welcomed into a rather unusual book club, life seems to finally be getting more interesting. Instead of reading, the members pledge to complete individual challenges before Christmas.

This was a 'free' book, included in my Audible subscription. I was looking for a feel good, Christmas like story. I definitely got the feel good, but it definitely wasn't a Christmas book. I loved the characters, the storyline and how everything has a nice ending to it. The narrator was great! The fact that the was included in my membership just made it all the better!

So glad I gave this a chance!!
Revisado: 09-17-21
I downloaded this book because it's included in the membership as a free title - I am SO glad I found this gem!! I at no point found this story dull, boring, dragging or uninteresting. Maybe bc I am a southerner myself, and I also had a very special bond with my grandmother - I was able to resonate with the characters. But the story gives you! a turbulent time period, flashbacks, how it interweaves with present day, mental illness, segregation, a southerners life VS a person from California's life....it was a beautiful story. I will definitely add this as a permanent title in my library and check out other books from this author!

Short and sweet
Revisado: 09-15-21
I found this book by perusing through the free books category included in my audible membership. I was looking for a standalone book, and one with a narrator that I actually like. Julia Whelan happens to be one of my favorites, so that was a major bonus! The story was simple, I liked the characters enough and the story moved along nicely. I didn't hate it, I didn't love it. I would have been a little upset had I of used a credit on this book, since it was free I'm glad I listened.

Sweet Story
Revisado: 07-31-21
This is the third HW novel I have had the pleasure of listening to (if you haven't listened to Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe *my personal fave* or South of the Buttonwood Tree - you're missing out!) and of the three, this one is my least favorite. While I loved the story and the characters and the setting, I wish we could have gotten a little more of the Inn life. I was thinking a busy Inn, cooky characters, loveable delivery boys (maybe I was thinking Dragonfly Inn for Gilmore Girls? lol) but it's more concentrated on the family running it. I love the narration, and the bit of magic and little plot twist at the end! I did enjoy this book and I will absolutely read more of HW's work as it is released!

Sarah Grace Landreneau Fulton is at a crossroads. She has always tried so hard to do the right thing, but her own mother would disown her if she ever learned half of Sarah Grace’s secrets.

Plot Twist!
Revisado: 07-31-21
I started this book immediately after Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe (another HW novel) because I needed something just as magical and well written! I loved this book so much! I listened every spare minute I had to figure out the big secret I could feel coming! HW does a fantastic job of setting the scenes, making you understand the characters and leaving no loose ends! If you're looking for a getaway with a little bit of magic and a whole lot of southern charm - you've found it!
