Historia
"You don't know God." The church elder’s eyes locked on me from across the conference table. “He’s absent from your narrative.” The room went woozy, and I struggled to bring my brain back online, managing to sputter, “God is the center of my narrative!” But he wasn’t listening. He already had his story about me. Here’s mine.

I Can Identify
Revisado: 04-16-24
Having listened to Natalie’s podcast and read her other book multiple times I didn’t think I would feel some of the triggers I did while listening to this book. I am thankful for her willingness to be vulnerable and share. I am in the process of writing my own story. I don’t know if it will end up being just a cleansing for me or not.

Relatable
Revisado: 12-03-23
Beth Moore has a gift for storytelling and listening to her read her own story is amazing! I have suffered abuse in my life and am working through writing my story, so to hear hers is wonderful and affirming. I wanted to cheer for the way she described her feelings with regards to the attitude of so many “Christians” towards Donald Trump. She said exactly what I couldn’t articulate. Beth Moore is a God blessed mouth piece for so many of us!

Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. She was the responsible, second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle’s nineteen kids; always with a baby on her hip and happy to wear the modest ankle-length dresses with throat-high necklines.

Revisado: 09-30-23
So courageous! As I continue to walk my own deconstruction journey from a not quite as extreme version of IBLP, I can’t help but be grateful for the courage it takes to tell your story. To all of us who are healing…. Keep growing!

So many things in common and we’re from completely different ends of the spectrum in every way!
We have so much in common all the way around because we are human.
I will probably listen again because of so many realizations I had about where I am in my life because of something Gabrielle shared in this book!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your story and being vulnerable!!

Historia
A gripping narrative history of the 1889 Johnstown Flood - the deadliest flood in US history - from New York Times best-selling author, NBC host, and legendary weather authority Al Roker. May 1889: After a deluge of rainfall swelled the Little Conemaugh River, panicked engineers watched helplessly as swiftly rising waters threatened to breach the South Fork Dam in central Pennsylvania. Though they telegraphed neighboring towns, warning of the impending danger, residents, used to false alarms, remained in their homes. At 3:10 p.m., the dam gave way....

Mispronunciation bothers me
Revisado: 09-08-18
I was born in Johnstown and have read just about everything ever written about the flood. I had family that lived through it. This is one of the best stories EVER! The only negative for me is mispronunciation of Pitcairn, the r isn’t silent, and mispronunciation of a couple towns and a river. Just me, but I loved the account

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, a magnificent novel about two unforgettable American women. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world - and it is now the newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

Historia
At the end of the last century, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, was a booming coal-and-steel town filled with hardworking families striving for a piece of the nation's burgeoning industrial prosperity. In the mountains above Johnstown, an old earth dam had been hastily rebuilt to create a lake for an exclusive summer resort patronized by the tycoons of that same industrial prosperity, among them Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, and Andrew Mellon.

Person all interest
Revisado: 09-27-16
I already knew much of the facts and stories about the flood. I was actually born in Johnstown and have visited the Flood Museum there several times. There was information in this that I hadn't heard before.
On a more personal note my great grandmother actually went through the flood on top of a house.
I thought the performance was exceptional.
