Riveting!
Revisado: 09-01-21
This was amazing. I took one star from the "performance" rating because (I hate to say it) I found the host of the bonus episodes grating. She went on at length when I wanted to keep hearing the story. It's still totally 100% worth listening to, though.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

This is a light, fun listen!
Revisado: 08-19-21
This is the exact escape listening I'm looking for. There's nothing harsh, graphic, or triggering. It's just a fun, light, feminine story to take you out of the grimy realities of life- but without being too cheap romance-y. More Bridget Jones-y, in the best way.

A lot of good info...
Revisado: 08-10-21
There's a lot here that's usable, but one thing was absolutely horrific to me: this lady opines that a woman should stop giving selflessly to her sons once they reach the age of five. FIVE! Can you imagine being that disconnected from your little boy just as he's getting old enough for kindergarten??
That one idea was so unthinkable to me that I had trouble trusting anything in the book after that, but I did finish it. I'll incorporate some of these ideas, but you can pry my selflessly giving to my young child from my cold, dead hands.

Eighteen Days and Counting
Revisado: 07-01-21
This was written by someone who's been there, which I appreciate.
I used to be unable to go a day without sugar. I was in desperate fear of orphaning my child because of my compulsive reliance on sugar. I spent my whole day looking forward to my nighttime binge. My dieting history is fraught with failure, disappointment, and shame. I felt liked I had no control in my own life.
Molly helped me realize what other substances I was consuming that drove my desperate cravings for the white stuff. That was what's caused me to be able to actually stop without too many cravings or too much suffering.
Additionally, understanding what to do INSTEAD of using sugar is a big part, and something I'll be working on long-term.
Molly is very relatable and funny, and this book has led to a huge success for me so far. I'll be listening to it again and again, and I recommend it for anyone who's feeling hopeless to combat a sugar addiction.

I almost turned this off in the first few minutes thinking it was going to be some mother/daughter relationship nonsense where the mother was right all along and then dies. BOY was I wrong. Stick with it and you will be AMAZED! For me, it was that kind of story- when it was over, I wanted to listen to a different story that was exactly like it!

When you have to kill the same terrorist twice in one week there’s either something wrong with your world or something wrong with your skills - and there’s nothing wrong with Joe Ledger’s skills. And that’s both a good and a bad thing. It’s good because he’s a Baltimore detective who has just been secretly recruited by the government to lead a new task force created to deal with the problems that Homeland Security can’t handle....

Yeck, a book for insecure dudes
Revisado: 04-21-15
I was looking for a book series to listen to while remodeling my house and I chose this one because of the good reviews. Well, I should have done more research.
The first red flag was the silly-sounding macho bragging accentuated by all-too-casual slang terms (something like "I planted two in his back" to mean he (a cop) shot someone; this amid a swarm of similar expressions). The reader recited all of this in his best tough-guy voice.
The last straw (albeit only ten to fifteen minutes in) happened when our hero was in a stressful situation and decided to reflect on how many thongs he had seen at the beach earlier in the day. It was something like "at least ten of those had the legal and moral right to be wearing thongs." Since I'm not an insecure overweight middle-aged guy locked in the fight of his life against erectile dysfunction, I put down my paintbrush, closed my Audible app in frustration, and vowed to be more careful with my credits. Yeck, what a waste.

I really liked this.
Revisado: 11-09-14
Honestly, I don't understand many of the deeper concepts this fellow is talking about, but I really enjoyed the whole performance. Jack has a way of talking that makes you feel like he's had some sleeping pills and marijuana, and the whole thing made me feel relaxed and generally benevolent toward everyone. I'm listening it to it again right now. My favorite part is when he tells the story of a lady who, after some group meditation, had attempted to tuck a romantic note into the shoe of someone else in the class. There's something utterly hilarious about hearing someone with a voice like that of Jack Kornfield say the word "Birkenstocks." I'll listen to this whole performance over and over for sure. I'll hopefully start to understand the concepts better at some point.

This is great!
Revisado: 11-02-14
I'm listening to a bunch of different stuff to get over this experience during which I was treated horribly by a very bad man. I listened to this as an introduction to mindfulness with the aim of having more control over my mind so I can stop thinking about this dastardly character. I am finding the techniques really helpful. Moreover, the idea that I can practice mindfulness and control distressing emotions in the future is extremely empowering. I recommend this lecture series particularly if you are suffering from repetitive thoughts that are affecting your enjoyment of life.
The only thing wrong with this book is that, when the professor puts on his "quiet and relaxing" voice for guided meditation stuff, he sounds exactly like Hank Hill, and it gives me the giggles pretty bad (I don't know how familiar y'all are with meditation, but giggling is supposedly counterproductive).
