Historia
Visiting her family's South Carolina estate, socialite Gray Godfrey wakes from a night out to an empty bed. Her husband, Paul, is gone, and a thrashing hangover has wiped her memory clean. At first, she's relieved for the break from her tumultuous marriage; perhaps Paul just needed some space. But when his car is found abandoned on the highway, Gray must face the truth: Paul is gone. And Gray may not want him found. Her life is unraveling. When a stranger named Annie calls claiming to know Paul's whereabouts, Gray reluctantly accepts her help.

Great narration for a predictable story...
Revisado: 05-02-24
I thought the narrators were excellent and the story was well written, if not original. I've read or listened to stories that ultimately resolved in the same way which made it a little predictable. Still, I really enjoyed it.

A story that needed to be told!
Revisado: 02-19-24
I love Kristen Hannah and have enjoyed many of her stories. This one was devastating. For anyone who can remember the headlines and protests that accompanied the Vietnam war this story will resonate. It is beautiful and sad and resilient and SO special. Five stars aren't enough!

My favorite, so far!
Revisado: 09-11-23
I've been a Longmire fan for years. I've liked some books better than others, naturally, but this is probably my favorite. George's narration was superb and the story reminded me why Craig Johnson is one of my all time favorite authors.
Walt Longmire isn't always perfect, doesn't have all the answers, but you can ALWAYS count on the integrity of this character to get him where he needs to be. Loved this book so much. Another 5 star winner for Mr. Johnson!

Revisado: 09-02-23
This story was full of surprises and twists. It was riveting. The narrator was excellent. The story was even better. I thought I had it all figured out and then surprise... another twist! I love it when a story is clever enough to surprise me. I highly recommend this one.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

A heartbreaking and ultimately uplifting story
Revisado: 08-08-23
As a rural Appalachian Virginian I found the characters in this story very realistic. Demon's plight will break your heart again and again, just as his resilience will. A kid who's dealt a bad hand but with a good heart he keeps fighting for survival.
I don't usually like 1st person narratives but in this case it was perfect. Great narrator, excellent story, I enjoyed how Kingsolver paralleled her characters with Dickens' David Copperfield.
The tale is haunting. This one will stay with me for a long time and I will be buying the hardcover edition for my personal library.

It is a perfect July morning, and Elle, a 50-year-old happily married mother of three, awakens at “The Paper Palace” - the family summer place she has visited every summer of her life. But this morning is different: Last night, Elle and her oldest friend, Jonas, crept out the back door into the darkness and had sex with each other for the first time, all while their spouses chatted away inside. Now, Elle will have to decide between the life she has made with her genuinely beloved husband and the life she always imagined she would have had with her childhood love.

I hated it. The writing itself and the narrator were both good, but the story was disgusting. The constant descriptions of child sexual abuse was more than I could take. I tried to get through it because this was a book club selection, but I couldn't do it! 😖🤮 Don't waste your credit!

A terrifyingly possible bit of "fiction"
Revisado: 09-08-21
I continue to be amazed and entertained (mixed with equal parts terror) by Jack Carr as an author. The protagonist of this series, James Reese, is flawed enough to be relatable while having integrity and principles enough to make him a great hero.
Ray Porter is a five-star narrator. I highly recommend this entire series (to date) and can't wait for the next book.

A great addition to a great series!
Revisado: 09-04-21
This series of thrillers is a must read! I have devoured each one of them, oddly enough, on the recommendation of another reader/listener who was equally disappointed with the new Stephen King book (politicized tripe!!).
if you're sick of hearing an author's political bias and just want a great story that keeps you engaged, from start to finish, read these books!
Jack Reese is terrific, if necessarily brutal, hero whom you can't help but admire. Jack Carr writes what he knows and he's a very good writer. Ray Porter's narration is excellent. He manages to give a distinctive voice to every character. These books are an all around pleasure to listen to and read.

Historia
One of the most viewed paintings in American history, Custer's Last Fight, copied and distributed by Anheuser-Busch at a rate of more than two million copies a year, was destroyed in a fire at the 7th Cavalry Headquarters in Fort Bliss, Texas, in 1946. Or was it? When Charley Lee Stillwater dies of an apparent heart attack at the Wyoming Home for Soldiers & Sailors, Walt Longmire is called in to try and make sense of a piece of a painting and a Florsheim shoebox containing a million dollars, sending the good sheriff on the trail of a dangerous art heist.

Loved it! Wonderful.
Revisado: 10-08-20
Poignant, smart, beautiful. Craig Johnson is the master! I have loved this series from its beginning and I'm sad to see Walt getting to the final stages of his career, winding down as we all do. George Guidal is a wonderful narrator and perfect for this series.
Walt harkens back to a country that I remember, one with respect, loyalty, decency, and ethics. All things that made this country great. I feel his sense of frustration as technology seems to be moving things ahead too quickly to grasp and he's being forced to contemplate what he will do when he finally has to retire. What will we do without Walt Longmire? 😢
The only criticism I have of this particular Longmire story is there was an unanswered question regarding Lolo that just seemed to be dropped in there for no purpose and there was no resolution. Over the years I've come to love these characters like personal friends. I highly recommend this book for any fan of the series. Bravo Mr. Johnson, PLEASE don't stop writing these wonderful characters. There is still life and love left for all of them.
