Historia
When Matt Ballard was starting out his career, three boys were murdered in the same area, the remote and bleak Gibbet Fen. When the main suspect was killed in a hit-and-run, the killings stopped. But Matt was not satisfied that the real murderer had been caught. Over 25 years later, Matt gets a photo in an unmarked envelope. It's of the Gibbet Fen crime scene. And the picture was taken before the murder took place. More photos arrive, relating to the historic murders, as well as intimate pictures of Matt's very secret private life.

Great Characters
Revisado: 12-10-24
I liked Liz! She had a great sense of humor and bold honesty. She was her own person and while outspoken, she was also very caring. Matt’s character is very complex. Tough yet compassionate. Smart yet befuddled when it came to feelings of love. All of the characters are so compelling in their own ways.

The writing was beautiful. Tragic. Funny. Dark. Illuminating characters. We find we think we know the human condition. But we actually do not.

It was the perfect sequel to Firefly Lane which was a fantastic read.
Revisado: 07-20-24
So many times a sequel doesn’t quite measure up to the first book but not in this case. This brought so much depth to each and every character. I cried. And I could relate to so many of the problems and trials that many of them went through and learned from. How they found out that you can try to run, but those issues and fears are still following you until you face them head on. Beautifully performed. Flawless. I loved this book from beginning to end. Thank you.

A bit drawn out and implausible

The sudden turn in the relationship between Nicholas’ mother (then father) and Rachel was a bit too quick and convenient for me. Otherwise a sweet love story.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Best book I’ve read in years!!
Revisado: 06-22-24
I liked everything! The tenderness. The brutality. The rawness. The truthfulness. Her story of these times makes you believe that somehow she must have lived it. Must’ve been able to transport herself back to France in WWII and lived the very days she is writing about. From her description of the apples on the trees to the the scraps of materials and ribbons tied to its branches to represent family, I could close my eyes and see the same tree, and it’s changes every time. I will read all books by this author. And probably more than once.

The performances were very realistic. I was impressed with the sound effects and how naturally conversational the characters were. I was disappointed with the ending. Not sure how I wanted it to end, but this ending left me wanting something different.
