Not as insightful as I remember
Revisado: 01-31-24
I had this book in the early 90s and remember liking it. Being older and wiser now, I just think most of the book has very little value. Author narrating is also disappointing.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Beautiful book and narration
Revisado: 07-07-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Cassandra Campbell’s narration was perfect. The imagery painted by the authors word usage was reminiscent of To Kill A Mockingbird.

Historia
Our evolutionary ancestors once possessed the ability to intuit what food their bodies needed, in what proportions, and ate the right things in the proper amounts—effortlessly balanced. When and why did we lose this ability, and how can we get it back? David Raubenheimer and Stephen Simpson answer these questions in a compelling narrative, based upon five "eureka" moments they experienced in the course of their groundbreaking research.

Extraordinary book on healthy eating
Revisado: 05-17-23
The content of this book should be taught in schools. The authors prove that human beings, like all of the other species they studied, eat to fulfill protein requirements and we will gorge ourselves with high carb / high fat foods until that magic number of protein is met. It makes so much sense. I actually started this book after losing over 80 pounds and reaching my target weight, but as I look back, I was accidentally following it all along with my diet. The book is highly informative and, at the same time, very entertaining. The narrator was great. I love this book.

Historia
Working from exclusive inside reporting, New Yorker writer Nicholas Schmidle tells the remarkable story of the test pilots, engineers, and visionaries behind Virgin Galactic’s campaign to build a space tourism company. Schmidle follows a handful of characters - Mark Stucky, Virgin’s lead test pilot; Richard Branson, the eccentric billionaire funding the venture; Mike Moses, the grounded, unflappable president; Mike Alsbury, the test pilot killed in a fatal crash; and others - in pursuit of their collective goal: to make space tourism a reality.

Awesome story. Great narration.
Revisado: 05-10-21
When I saw that the author was reading the book, I was disappointed. In my experience, authors are generally poor narrators and it ruins the listen. I was pleasantly surprised when I started listening; Schmidle is great. If the author thing doesn't work out, he has a future in narration, that's for sure.
I'm an employee of VG. I'm only 3/4 through this book while writing this review, so hopefully there's not a disappointing twist at the end. I really enjoy this book so far. Excellent story-telling from a unique perspective. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
The collapse of The Flow, the interstellar pathway between the planets of the Interdependency, has accelerated. Entire star systems - and billions of people - are becoming cut off from the rest of human civilization. This collapse was foretold through scientific prediction...and yet, even as the evidence is obvious and insurmountable, many still try to rationalize, delay and profit from, these final days of one of the greatest empires humanity has ever known.

Even Will Wheaton's narration couldn't save it.
Revisado: 08-25-20
This 3 book series was hands down the most boring 3 books I have ever listened to. I am a fan of John Scalzi's other works, but, my God, these three are nearly impossible to get through. I can count on one hand things that "actually happened" in all of these books put together. 99% of the content in this series is as follows: "this person talked to this person... then this person talked to that person.... then she thought about this... then she talked to another person... who talked to this person and thought about this..."
SPOILER ALERT
Here is all three books in a nutshell (up to the last 4 hours of Book 3 because I just couldn't do it anymore):
Kiva is a loudmouth harlot who bangs a lot of people and yells a lot. Cardenia takes over as emperor of the known universe when her father dies and she talks to a lot of people throughout the entire book series, including AI versions of her ancestors. The only thing that really happens with her is that she escapes two assassination attempts, the second one being really the only action in all three books. Too bad this only accounts for around 10 minutes of the audiobook. The Nohamapetans are the villains of the books, even though they mostly only talk to each other at length. The star systems are connected by something called The Flow and it is collapsing. All three books go into length explaining how the flow works and it still makes no sense. That's pretty much it.
If you enjoy listening to characters talking to one another for hours on end, you will enjoy this book.

Boring
Revisado: 07-03-20
I'm a fan, but this was boring. All dialogue between characters. No real action. Wheaton was great, as usual. I just felt like this entire book was setting up, setting up, setting up, with no real conclusion. Like the whole point was setting up book 3.

Spoiler Alert
Revisado: 09-28-19
This book was ok. I like the genre. I had a few nagging problems with the storytelling that made me overall negatively view the book. Spoiler alert..
I find it impossible to believe that Ellie went missing, Laurel was in possession of her dairies, and only years after Ellie was gone does Laurel decide to deep dive into the diaries. Seriously? In the real world, those diaries would have been analysed word for word, extensively, looking for any clues whatsoever to help find the missing daughter.
It never mentions just how Ellie became impregnated. How did the sperm get inside her without her knowing it? No plausible explanation is even offered.
I didn't like many of the main characters out of the blue start offering this 1st person account of what they did, without explaining what this is. Noelle goes into this whole "this is everything that I did" as if she is writing in a journal, but it is never explained who she is talking to.
The story was great, I just think it could have been told more skillfully. The whole structure seemed rushed.
