Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

Historia
No member of America's founding generation had a greater impact on the Constitution and the Supreme Court than John Marshall, and no one did more to preserve the delicate unity of the fledgling United States. From the nation's founding in 1776 and for the next 40 years, Marshall was at the center of every political battle. As Chief Justice of the United States - the longest-serving in history—he established the independence of the judiciary and the supremacy of the federal Constitution and courts.

This book is mistitled
Revisado: 12-28-24
This book should be titled "I hate Jefferson and I have to virtue signal" Only the very 1st part of this book is worth the listen/read, the 2nd quarter goes on and on as to why Jeffeson is horrible and Marshal is not. I have to stop listening to this book and find one that tells just the facts and allows me to decide the good and bad of our founders. All of them were both because all of them were human.

Historia
Adults easily recognize children's imagination at work as they play. Yet most of us know little about what really goes on inside their heads as they encounter the problems and complexities of the world around them. In The Intellectual Lives of Children, Susan Engel brings together an extraordinary body of research to explain how toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary-aged children think.

good ideas, thought provoking
Revisado: 03-11-24
Stories are a great way to learn and provide a way to come up with more thoughts. I recommend it for some great thoughts on guiding children towards their own ideas. Just ignore the virtue signaling.

this is an amazing book. I thought it was going to be too long, but it has to be to get all the information in there. Washington was a great man that did many things, and this is a great book to learn from.

Historia
The must-have companion to Bill O'Reilly's historical docudrama Legends and Lies: The Patriots, an exciting and eye-opening look at the Revolutionary War through the lives of its leaders. The American Revolution was neither inevitable nor a unanimous cause. It pitted neighbors against each other as loyalists and colonial rebels faced off for their lives and futures. These were the times that tried men's souls: No one was on stable ground, and few could be trusted.

I really enjoyed this book, it was fast paced with so much information, I had to go back and re-listen to parts. The performance was okay, but at times overly dramatic to the point of distraction.

Historia
When Thomas Jefferson became president in 1801, America faced a crisis. The new nation was deeply in debt and needed its economy to grow quickly, but its merchant ships were under attack. Pirates from North Africa's Barbary coast routinely captured American sailors and held them as slaves, demanding ransom and tribute payments far beyond what the new country could afford.

Historia
Shy, fragile Fanny Price is the consummate "poor relation". Sent to live with her wealthy uncle Thomas, she clashes with his spoiled, selfish daughters and falls in love with his son. Their lives are further complicated by the arrival of a pair of witty, sophisticated Londoners, whose flair for flirtation collides with the quiet, conservative country ways of Mansfield Park.

Historia
Four months have passed since the shadow stone fell into Kell's possession. Four months since his path crossed with Delilah Bard. Four months since Rhy was wounded and the Dane twins fell, and the stone was cast with Holland's dying body through the rift, and into Black London. In many ways, things have almost returned to normal, though Rhy is more sober, and Kell is now plagued by his guilt.

Historia
One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, a genius; Gail Wynand, a newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire; and Dominique Francon, a devastating beauty.

A must read
Revisado: 04-01-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I absolutely recommend this audiobook if you are a thinker and not afraid to look at yourself.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character is Dominique, she always lives on her own terms.
What does Christopher Hurt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The only thing I can think of that Christopher Hurt brought to the book that I couldn't experience if I had read the book, is a male voice. With that said he got pretty close to what what I would hear in my head, he did great.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was moved every time Howard Roark was knocked back down by society.
Any additional comments?
If you value hard work, honesty, integrity and think that some people are moving us toward dependence on the government, and away from personal responsibility, you will love the message of this book.
