Historia
It all starts on the morning the letter D disappears from language. First, it vanishes from Dhikilo’s parents’ conversation at breakfast, then from the road signs outside and from her school dinners. Soon the local dentist and the neighbor’s dalmatian are missing, and even the Donkey Derby has been called off. Though she doesn’t know why, Dhikilo is summoned to the home of her old history teacher Professor Dodderfield and his faithful Labrador, Nelly Robinson. And this is where our story begins.

Michael at his best with the weird but ultimately i just didn’t care about the characters, the world or the quest.

Pro-Authoritarian Story
Revisado: 10-29-20
This is the worst story that I also kind of love. Great ideas but terrible story. It's so unrealistic in 1,000 different ways. It really treats _all_ of the non-main characters as immature children incapable of doing anything for themselves but requiring wise rulers to do everything for them. It depicts an authoritarian's imagination for how wise rulers are required to manage the masses. No matter that the rulers are human children people too. <sarcasm>Hail centralized government. Hail dictators. We the people are unworthy of your kind, intelligent guiding hand. We could not even wipe our own bottoms if you weren't there to tell us to do so.</sarcasm> If you respect the intelligence and autonomy of humans, this book is not for you. If you want to assure yourself that society needs authoritarian leaders, then read on!

Should have liked it
Revisado: 04-03-19
I wanted to like it much more than I did. And I should have liked it much more than I did. I have read almost every popular-economics book out there, but this one was unfortunately one of my least favourites. Sometimes the author is just kind of dumb about the reasons behind some things. He seems to forget that people are humans, to the strong detriment of his reasoning. I think also the book lacks enough narrative. As it is it is quite dry.

Historia
A riveting, groundbreaking account of how the war on crime has torn apart inner-city communities. Forty years in, the tough-on-crime turn in American politics has spurred a prison boom of historic proportions that disproportionately affects Black communities. It has also torn at the lives of those on the outside. As arrest quotas and high-tech surveillance criminalize entire blocks, a climate of fear and suspicion pervades daily life, not only for young men entangled in the legal system but for their family members and working neighbors.

Words on the Move opens our eyes to the surprising backstories to the words and expressions we use every day. Did you know that silly once meant "blessed"? Or that ought was the original past tense of owe? Or that the suffix -ly in adverbs is actually a remnant of the word like? And have you ever wondered why some people from New Orleans sound as if they come from Brooklyn?

I had no idea
Revisado: 10-25-17
The book was really interesting for the first 66% or so. I'm not a linguist so the ideas were fresh to me. But I did get a bit bored at the end with the long stretches of explanation about the ways in which specific words morph slowly and accents and such. Probably could have been shorter but publishers hate short books

Historia
Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you'll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever.

Good content, but too much mysticism
Revisado: 04-19-15
The message that you should eliminate is a good one and the advice on how to do it and specifics are good. The author should also address the second step which is to stop further accumulation, but that's okay. But my main complaint is that the author talks too much about mysticism and spiritualism.
