Rare case where I watched the movie first. It made a lot more sense understanding the internal dialogue. Love Santino too!

Had me on the edge of my seat from the start. Engaging characters, high stakes, twists and turns, and a few nods to The Fugitive. Great stuff.

Outlandish Adventure
Revisado: 05-10-21
What a fun, outlandish adventure. I'm someone who is both terrified by and yet drawn to tales of deep sea monsters. This story definitely delivered on the thrills. My forays into this genre are usually more on the film than the reading side, so, if I had to compare, this would be a combination of Deep Rising and Cutthroat Island with a bit of Jaws and the Meg thrown in for good measure. A few reviews commented on some unrealistic plot twists. I would say that, with the main premise being a giant man-eating fish who hunts for sport, I embarked on this adventure prepared to suspend my disbelief. It's a non-stop adventure once it gets going. And ala Game of Thrones, you just never know who's getting offed next. Fun summer read, and yet another story that shall keep me away from swimming in deep, dark water.
As one additional note, the opener was very catchy. I kept hoping the character would make a reappearance later, and .....(spoiler) she does! Thanks to Sean Duregger for providing a free audio copy in exchange for an honest review. Enjoyed the book and the narration.

The pieces all come together
Revisado: 01-19-21
This entertaining thriller features a rare antagonist, a female serial killer. The book weaves the stories of multiple interesting characters, including this blonde bombshell with no empathy who is introduced while executing a brutal and methodical killing. I enjoyed the different stories but was starting to wonder at a certain point if they would all come together. Rest assured, the puzzle pieces fit. I nearly said "Ah-ha!" aloud when I figured out where it was going. The characters are well developed, and the plot is intriguing. I particularly enjoyed Andy Stevenson's narration. He has a soothing voice, reminiscent of some of my other favorites like Tony Britton. He gave the characters distinctive voices that were easily recognizable. An excellent listen!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Non-stop thrill ride
Revisado: 12-24-20
I saw this featured on audible and took a chance. I was completely blown away and couldn't stop listening! The story is excellently crafted, and I was rooting for the two male leads, Mike and Shep, who are foster brothers with troubled pasts. Mike is haunted by wisps of memory of his parents after being abandoned as a toddler. His anxiety over the wellbeing of his own child years later is understandable. Unknown forces then conspire to put his family at risk. I was on the edge of my seat as he and the stony but loyal Shep try to unravel the mystery behind the psychopaths on Mike's trail. The big reveal was an interesting twist I didn't see coming. Note for listeners, there is a fair amount of violence. You will be rooting for Mike and holding your breath, especially when his young daughter is in harm's way. Going to have to check out more of Hurwtiz's novels.

A few surprises
Revisado: 12-22-20
Another great listen from Harlan Coben. As usual, he weaves several different tales that intersect. Cope, the local prosecutor encounters demons from his past as a series of unusual events suggests that the long ago murder of his sister may not have occurred as he thought. There is an underlying theme of parents trying to protect their children. This was more of a mystery than some of his other novels. I didn't see the final twist coming, and there were a few more surprises in store even after the big reveal. Scott Brick did a great job narrating.

Really enjoyed this mystery/drama. The characters are complex and captivating. I was particularly hooked by Hester with her no nonsense exterior hiding so much vulnerability. Wild is like Jack Reacher meets Tarzan. Great story!

Very interesting
Revisado: 12-09-20
This isn't my usual preferred genre, but I kept hearing about it. The story is very interesting with the main character clearly having a lack of interpersonal skills for reasons that become tragically clear by the finale. In spite of the challenges she faces, she learns to love herself and to be more fulfilled in her community with the help of some lovable, quirky characters.

Really enjoyed this spy thriller. I know others who complained it wasn't high action enough. I thought there was plenty of action. I also enjoyed the depiction of the painstakingly cautious work involved in espionage. The recipes added in each chapter were a surprisingly cosy feature.
