Historia
You're home making dinner for your husband. You expect him any second. The phone rings - it's the call you hoped you'd never get. You jump in your car and race to a neighborhood you thought you'd never visit. You peer into the dark, deserted building. You brace yourself for the worst. And then, you remember nothing else. They tell your husband you've been in an accident. You lost control of your car as you sped through the worst side of town. The police suspect you were up to no good. But your husband refuses to believe it.

Predictable and longer than it needed to be
Revisado: 08-15-24
I had trouble with this book. It seemed predictable and was much longer than I really needed to be. A third of the book could have been left out and it wouldn't have made a big enough of difference in the story.

Mind numbingly drawn out, terrible narrator
Revisado: 02-18-23
The storyline was good, but the author dragged this storyline out in such a painful manner. We read this as a bookclub book and had other members not told me that it eventually picks up I was ready to ditch the book. It didn't pick up until chapter 13. The narrator's voice was very robotic and probably played a part in my overall meh experience with this book. Skip the audio version.

Historia
Asian Americans are experiencing a racial reckoning regarding their identity, inspiring them to radically reconsider the cultural frameworks that enabled their assimilation into American culture. As Asian Americans investigate the personal and societal effects of longstanding cultural narratives suggesting they take up as little space as possible, their mental health becomes critically important. Yet despite the fact that over 18 million people of Asian descent live in the United States today—they are the racial group least likely to seek out mental health services.

Deep understanding of Asian American experience
Revisado: 01-28-23
This author and her professional expertise have eloquently not only described, but provided realistic tips to deal with the common issues that many Asian Americans struggle with that are dismissed by American society and mental health professionals who lack cultural competence to even acknowledge this common theme. Kudos to the author for writing a book on this topic and also being vulnerable enough to share her personal experiences. Your book artfully combines both your personal experiences and journey along with your professional background to acknowledge our experiences. - A second gen Taiwanese American woman, professional, wife, daughter, and mom to third gen pan-Asian teens.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

Couldn't get through it
Revisado: 09-09-21
This was a book club book that came highly recommended. half of our book club were not able to even finish the book, including myself. only one person liked it, but when she found out it was fictional she was disappointed. I did not like the narration style with multiple actors, this is the second audio book I've gotten in this type of cast style and unfortunately the other book was also one I did not finish. the storyline was slow. It has been a while since I've been unable to finish a book.

Common sense
Revisado: 03-29-20
I was disappointed in this. first it assumes that all managers are competent and reasonable people, which for anyone who has had a toxic manager, this does not apply. if you have a good manager you have no need to try to "manage up" your manager. It seems that most tips suggested are to placate and to coddle the ego of a manager.

Riley Kennedy’s emails keep getting crossed with her male colleague, Kennedy Riley. The infuriating man forwards them along with his annoying commentary and unsolicited advice. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. It's so busy during the holidays, I prefer short reads. This was perfect.

A religious book, based on Christian pov
Revisado: 10-21-17
This book was chosen as a book club book. I do not enjoy Christian fiction and would never in a million years have chosen this book, but I did read it. Overall, the majority of our book club did not like this book, the discussion questions were not good and none of us realized this was a Christian book when it was selected, the member who picked it chose it due to friends having raved about it. I think that from now on we will all make sure to weed books out more closely. For the record, the book club is pretty much made up of Christians, but nobody wanted to read this as leisure reading and felt it was best for very strict Christians who are rigid.
