Historia
Lyme Disease is a substantial problem. While the CDC reported 427,000 new cases in 2017 based on surveillance criteria, actual numbers based on clinical diagnosis put that number at over one million. It is now well accepted that 10 to 20 percent of these cases go on to become a chronic illness.

The author gives you so much information from his many years in the field. He has it organized so you can jump to the chapters that matter to you most. Every chapter though gives you more solutions than any other book on Lymes I have read.

OK but could of been better.
Revisado: 01-08-13
What did you like best about Mr. Churchill's Secretary? What did you like least?
I really like the premise, but the writing is almost schoolgirl level. It is very predictable and never achieves any level of sophistication, The author has the girls thinking in the present way of thinking and not of the 1940s times so obviously no research was done into the way they thought, and talked back then. I know for I have done such research and was not impressed with this authors writing on it.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No, unless the script writer was amazing.

Historia
The best-selling author of The Bomber Mafia focuses on "minor geniuses" and idiosyncratic behavior to illuminate the ways all of us organize experience in this "delightful" (Bloomberg News) collection of writings from The New Yorker. What is the difference between choking and panicking? Why are there dozens of varieties of mustard-but only one variety of ketchup? What do football players teach us about how to hire teachers? What does hair dye tell us about the history of the 20th century?

Malcolm is the BEST
Revisado: 01-08-13
Would you consider the audio edition of What the Dog Saw to be better than the print version?
Yes for there are short stories so you can stop and start easily.
What did you like best about this story?
Gladwell's writing is amazing he can make any subject matter interesting. He takes the dullest subjects and somehow transforms them into interesting topics of discussion in his short stories.
Have you listened to any of Malcolm Gladwell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Equally as great as the others.

I Loved it!
Revisado: 01-08-13
Where does Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of the ones I will listen to again.
What other book might you compare Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake to and why?
She tells about her mundane life, she looks at it differently and so inspires me to look at mine in a different way.... to study my life so mine is not such a freeway but a casual road that is slow enough for me to enjoy...
Which character – as performed by Anna Quindlen – was your favorite?
Herself, she is getting older and looking back at life, seeing the changes that have happened so quickly yet took so long. I understand her way of thinking as a 40 something watching the world go by. Seeing the kids go off to college..... seeing the first grey hairs,,, watching the older generation die.... all these things may not happen to you but they are happening to someone you know and I really relate.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
This is not the type of book one would make a movie about it is commentary.

Historia
Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. Neurosurgeon Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress. Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back. Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere.

Good but needs some help!
Revisado: 01-08-13
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Eben should of let someone professional read his book he does not do a good job but leave it to a Doctor to think they can do everything correctly. He also should gotten help on his writing for it could of been a lot better with more examples of real people with stats to back him up. I was disappointed and I am surprised that this book has sold so well, the one and only thing I can mark it up to is that he did have an amazing experience which he wrapped with frivolous information. All I am saying is that it could of been done so much better with a ghost writer. ( Preferably Malcolm Gladwell yes I know he would not be available but would of been the greatest.)
Would you be willing to try another book from Eben Alexander? Why or why not?
no because of his success he will feel he can write well and read his own book the next one won't do so well for he won't have the flash in the pan.
How could the performance have been better?
He does not have the smoothness of a professional he gets emotional, stammers a bit, you get the idea. A professional would of brought it to life where he just read.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Yes, it the middle he did tell the heaven experience that was very interesting.
Any additional comments?
There is only a small section of this book worth reading or listening to.

There were were definitely places where I laughed and cried, Anna is able to make you think about your own mundane life with new perspective.

Historia
In the winter of 1918, at the height of World War I, history's most lethal influenza virus erupted in an army camp in Kansas, moved east with American troops, then exploded, killing as many as 100 million people worldwide. It killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS has killed in 24 years, more in a year than the Black Death killed in a century. But this was not the Middle Ages, and 1918 marked the first collision between modern science and epidemic disease.

I learned a lot, I didn't know.
Revisado: 11-05-12
Where does The Great Influenza rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I would put it in the upper middle, good but not the best. I still enjoyed it a lot. I would recommend it to anyone to finds the subject matter interesting.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Great Influenza?
The amount of mistakes the country's leaders made in under estimating the strength of the flu. Their thoughts were on the WW1 and how to win it. They went and had a 2 mile long War Bond parade when people were already dropping dead from the flu. This made it spread so much faster.
Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
no, I have not.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The hopelessness, some people were so sick themselves that they could not carry their loved ones corpses out of their NY apts and they were forced to lay in the same room as the dead. The scary thing is this could so easily happen again and spread so much quicker. We have no really major way to fight it.
