Last one started to drag a bit but book 3 was a nice chance of pace. Would actually like to see more of how the day to day empire building is working out.

One of the few that's getting better over time
Revisado: 04-09-25
First, thank you for the recap! Made listening much more enjoyable having a refresh, can't believe its not standard at this point.
Really enjoyed this, starting to reveal a really interesting world. Author may have gone a little excessive on the inner monologue this time, but I can see the rationale to show his growth as a person.
I hope the pace picks up a bit though, given we're 3 solid books in and less than 20% through the tutorial. I love a long series, but I'd actually like to see them get back to earth and interact with the wider universe.
Looking forward to the next one.

Historia
Hal's triumph over the Tower of Blight should have left his settlement of Brightsong stronger than ever. Instead, it left them without a leader, and their strongest members were sent halfway across the world. Trading frigid cold for unrelenting heat, the Dunes of Midnight are no less vicious than the Shiverglades. Beastmen attack the outskirts of civilization while the Adventurer's Guild falls to ruins. Wanting nothing more than to return home before the tribes of the Shiverglades arrive on Brightsong's doorstep, Hal seeks answers in the metropolis of Dalmanii.

Very good side quest in the most frustrating series in the genre.
Revisado: 03-13-25
This series is like if you laid out all the ingredients for a perfect meal, but the chef only uses two and burns one of them...
we have everything here - Solid cast of multidimensional characters? Check. MC who not an idiot with a unique power set? Check.
Base building with potential for kingdom building? Check. Great world with many investing background mysteries? Check.
Yet somehow we manage to see almost no development across these pieces over many books and hundreds of hours. Incredibly, I think Hals adventurers guild saw more progression in the book than Brightsong has seen in the last 5 books.
Don't get me started in the meeting with the tribes, an event that has been set up (and pushed off) for at least 4 books. Turns out it's so insignificant that a minor character in a Hal mask can take care of it effortlessly. Rather than what this book should have been - finally meeting the neighbors, spending time on Brightsongs place in the region, and getting some answers on shiverglades mysteries - we get ANOTHER transported away from home side quest.
The worst part is, this story is actually good - another interesting location with a compelling mystery and good action and great progression speed (except the usual painful skill indecision). But we didn't need any of it; the story is already drowning in open questions and plot threads. Please, moving forward, FINISH WHAT YOU'VE STARTED.

Many years and even more levels have passed since Jake and friends entered Nevermore. With quite a number of floors passed, they turn their attention to the Challenge Dungeons. These Challenge Dungeons offer – as the name suggests – unique challenges and circumstances, and completing them will earn each Nevermore competitor points and multipliers to their existing points. As things unfold, it quickly becomes clear it’s through these dungeons that the true top-scorer of the Nevermore Leaderboards will be found.

Love the series, but this does not deserve the same rating as past books
Revisado: 03-11-25
Sadly this is the first of the series I chose to listen to at high speed. Not a great sign when the most interesting parts were the interludes not involving Jake... I think this whole book could be excluded from the series and you'd miss almost nothing important.
There's definitely lots of good here as usual (Minaga is great, like the god interactions) but this arc should have been aggressively edited when moved from royal road.

Interesting world, good plot, terrible characters
Revisado: 02-26-25
This is a weird one for me, I really like the world, magic system and the plot progression - but I think I'm done after this book... The authors choice to remove all the most interesting characters we got to know over the 2 books is absolutely baffling.
Lillan and Nox's relationship was the only real interaction outaide his family conflicts that had any real weight. Can't understand the thought process that led to not including her in this book.
Aria is about as 1 dimensional as it gets and their "love" is fully a plot device. The relationship with Annabelle wasn't great but it at least felt a bit earned with all they went through. Painful to listen to something this shallow
Michelle and Earnest were interesting characters with a compelling backstory that mirrored Nox and Lillan. What do we get? Kill Earnest off screen and Michelle just leaves...
Then after his mentor dies (another solid character), her old friend shows up and offers to recruit him in the most blatant 'this character is evil' set-up you can imagine.
Overall IMO, this was a huge step down in writing for the 3rd installment, such a shame, but I've lost most of my interest in the story's future.

Magic school isn't cheap. To be a Mage, he must work smart and learn fast.Fate dealt Nox the Alchemist unfavorable cards, but he has learnt to compensate for his shortcomings with scholarly pursuits, tenacity, and sheer grit. Fortunately, for him Woodson University and their scouts are always seeking individuals with his work ethic. The Department of Dungeon Studies sees the value of the mind and its ability to overcome all limitations. After all, they stripped the divine of their titles. The department turned gods into Dungeon Lords and their domains into Dungeons.

Unsure about the title though, a bit misleading. The department of dungeon studies and the school in general play a pretty minor role

Still good but has become a story about concepts and abilities, not characters...
Revisado: 02-16-25
Really love this series and this was an enjoyable listen. However the last few have struggled to keep my attention. The various systems, realms, abilities, concepts and secrets have gotten way too complex. Most of this book is either reading stat screens or discussing various new abilities or understanding Ruen has acquired. The story has lost its connection to its own characters and nothing it feels like matters anymore. What happened to the empire Ruen is still the head of? Where's the real Uru who sacrificed everything get him here? No step clan or black pyramid? Where are any of their parents? How's Ruen's relationship with Hama?
The author clearly has a very detailed plan for the overall arc, which is great compared to so many other LITRPGs, but seems like he's lost sight of anything beyond the major points to move the plot along. Characters just feel like conduits for revelations about the system and the wider universe with generic 'save everyone' motivations... a sad fall from where this series started
Will still get the next, just hope we get to take a step back and reconnect with the world.

It seems like a lifetime ago that Thedeim was a mortal man. After a fatal accident, he was transported to a strange realm to begin again as a living low-level dungeon. But he didn't stay small for long. With a powerful will, he built his dungeon self into a force to be reckoned with, full of minions, creepy crawlies, and a hedge maze to die for. Except Thedeim isn't a place where delvers die. He's a different, friendlier kind of dungeon, which suits both him and his many allies just fine. But being a nice dungeon means taking on some not-so-nice entities.

Good story, annoying MC, perfect narration
Revisado: 12-03-24
Interesting new take on the tower format, looking forward to seeing how the world expands. However I'm not sure I'll last long term if the MC keeps up the intentional stupidity act. You'll either love or hate Jack... I'm in the hate side. I'll admit he's well written and actually funny at times, but it's too much and messes with the tone of the book. I think the most unrealistic part of the book, including all of humanity being transported into a multidimensional tower, is that any woman would be able to stand Jack for more than 10 minutes, nevermind agree to marry him.
I'll buy book 2 and hope the author tamps down the absurd personality just a bit, since everything else is good
