Historia
Before Owen Michaels disappears, he smuggles a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her. Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers—Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey. Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. Bailey, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother. As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered, as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss, as a US marshal and federal agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was.

Badly written and read
Revisado: 06-09-23
It was like listening to a high school essay by a student who had to get in 1500 words, so they kept repeating the same phrase at the beginning of every sentence. Also, I can suspend disbelief better than most people, but this was beyond. I returned the title after listening to all but 3 hours waiting to summit Mount Whatsyerpoint. Performance was monotone.

Historia
April Clarke-Cliveden was the first person Hannah Jones met at Oxford. Vivacious, bright, occasionally vicious, and the ultimate It girl, she quickly pulled Hannah into her dazzling orbit. Together, they developed a group of devoted and inseparable friends—Will, Hugh, Ryan, and Emily—during their first term. By the end of the year, April was dead.

Phone narration
Revisado: 08-06-22
Just want to say this out loud: I don’t need the person on the other end of the phone to be read through a tinny voice alteration device. It doesn’t add anything. Just means I can’t hear that part of the book in my car.

Historia
Born to a prominent Chicago judge and his stifled socialite wife, Mia Dennett moves against the grain as a young inner-city art teacher. One night, Mia enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. With his smooth moves and modest wit, Colin Thatcher seems at first like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life.

Terrible, bad narration
Revisado: 06-23-22
I wish I had listen to the reviews before using a credit on this simplistic drivel. The author might need a class in descriptive writing. Phrases like “winterized for the winter” come to mind. That phrase accounts for 3 words I don’t need, the sort of thing one might find in an essay that has a minimum word count assigned. I’m 2.5 hours in and I’m still waiting for almost any part of this to summit Mt Whatsyerpoint. And who knows, I may have tuned out during critical points due to boredom. The female narration isn’t so bad, but the male parts, ESPECIALLY the detective putting on his best Det. Joe Friday voice is excruciating. Off to search for a book read by Imogene Church that I’ve not already bought.

Historia
In this vivid and compelling novel, Tim Murphy follows a diverse set of characters whose fates intertwine in an iconic building in Manhattan's East Village, the Christodora. The Christodora is home to Milly and Jared, a privileged young couple with artistic ambitions. Their neighbor, Hector, a Puerto Rican gay man who was once a celebrated AIDS activist but is now a lonely addict, becomes connected to Milly and Jared's lives in ways none of them can anticipate.

Excellent book with a couple factual flaws

Any additional comments?
I loved Christodora for the way that the stories entertwined. However, I was disappointed in some of the factually inaccurate things surrounding the HIV parts of the story. The thing that hooked me into purchasing the audiobook was the AIDS storyline. However, the author got many things wrong. For instance, AZT and ddI were never used in combo in the early 90s. That was AZT and ddC, which is still a combo med. These things are easy to fact check with a google search if you don't know for sure or weren't involved in the AIDS crisis at the time as I was. That's my reason for giving the story 4 stars. When I hear things that are simply incorrect, especially about things that are important to me, I balk a little, and it makes me enjoy the book less. There were other things that were factually incorrect, but I can't bring them to mind at the moment.

When I first got this book, I was afraid that there would be parts of the story I didn't want to hear, like really horrible, violent things happening to Carmel. Fortunately, none of that happened. The story kept me interested throughout, although there were many times that I felt that Carmel had ample opportunity and clues to figure out that Gramps lied to her. I also wasn't thrilled with the ending of the book, which made me feel very "wait, what? That's it?" Felt a little cheated. I mean, even the resolution with Gramps wasn't fully explained. But, as you can see, I gave the book 4 stars overall because I really did like listening to it and I liked the story, even though there were points of frustration.

Suspend your disbelief and take a little ride
Revisado: 04-29-16
What does Ari Fliakos bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He fills the characters with excitement and emotion. He really makes the characters come alive.
Any additional comments?
There's nothing I like more than hanging out with a few good nerds, and this book is just that. The characters are well imagined, smart, and humorous. While there are parts of the story that are farfetched, I just didn't care. The performance of Ari Fliakos was riveting! It was indeed a performance. This would be a great book for the whole family to listen to on a long car trip.

I fully enjoyed this book. I'm not sure if I liked the story more or the way the story was performed more. One of my favorite audiobooks, for sure. I stopped listening about 45 minutes before the end for a day or so because I just wasn't ready for it to be over.

Historia
On a night flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning and mysterious Lily Kintner. Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing very intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that's going stale and his wife, Miranda, who he's sure is cheating on him. Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start - he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit - a contrast that once inflamed their passion but has now become a cliché.

Fairly good story, annoying performance
Revisado: 04-29-16
Any additional comments?
I gave this book 4 stars because overall, it was entertaining. It's certainly no mindripper, but I enjoyed listening to it. The story took a while for me to become interested because I couldn't get past the performance of Ted, who is supposed to be in his late 20s, sounding like my 70 year old uncle. Then the Lily reader, who seemed to be making a point of pronouncing the "wh" in words like what and while, and inappropriately emphasizing certain words (pronouns, especially I or me, and, of course, words like why, what, when) made it difficult to listen to what she was saying rather than how she was saying it. Despite all of this and the stereotyping of the police character, the story was interesting enough to keep my attention throughout the whole book. Good background listening for putting together a jigsaw puzzle, for instance.

I just can't with this book
Revisado: 03-28-16
Any additional comments?
I listened to a good 3-4 hours of this book before I gave up. The narration is slow, which was boring me to death, so I sped it up to 1.25x and then 1.5x before realizing that no matter how fast it went, the story was disjointed and going nowhere. I quit out of sheer boredom. It's unfortunate because the first 30 minutes or so was very appealing, but it just dragged on after that.
