This is one of the most interesting “adventure” stories I’ve ever read (ok, listened to). 1. Great descriptions of fishing. 2. The writer has somehow turned the classic Lit-rpg elements inside out, with a focus on internal growth and inner change… and the value of living in alignment with the world.
3. Despite that, (really!) it is laugh-out-loud funny. The troupe of animal pals makes this book so much fun.

There are dangers ahead for this series, because the more powerful we know Fisher to be, the more awkward his role becomes. Being a good guy is great and all (and we now know how dangerous corrupted chi can be). But can the joy and the challenges and the growth continue? How many cuddle puddles can one book series manage and still keep its audience engaged?

I hear the force inside me whisper, “Trust,” so I’ll still be here waiting for heretical fishing 4. I’m very much looking forward to it and I hope the series will continue. It’s a really fun read and one much needed in challenging times. Thanks!

A very “meta” book, tho who doesn’t root for the redshirts?

A slow start, I thought, but ultimately a pretty rewarding story. We laughed out loud, always a good sign!

This story was almost too painful to listen to in the beginning, because its depiction of office gossip and our phone addiction was so compelling and overwhelming. But once the telepathy began, I really fell love with the people and the story (tho I still kept exhorting various characters to LISTEN to each other). Great story - compelling and charming at the same time.

Neat story of human dynamics and gender. I was a bit surprised by expectation of “male” and “female” as the only two genders across worlds and species, but the story held up in the end as a musing on gender expectations and relationships. And I would love to one day see Sarah falls….

Squirrels by day and… this will make me happy every time I take a walk in the woods. Delightful story with a casual relationship to MSND but lots of fun quotations from quite a bit of the Shakespearean canon. As the author suggests, I felt quite clever whenever I noticed one. Still smiling. Also great reader, thank you Euan Morton.

Thanks for sharing some of the behind the scenes of audiobook production. I’m glad Jim Butcher had a good time doing this recording and he did a credible job. The story was, as always, excellent.

The young protagonists, especially Tori, have an unrealistically large impact on their world(s), as other reviewers have mentioned. Hard to envision adults so Respectful of very young teenagers. But an enjoyable tension-filled story line that kept me going for all three books,

Much of the tension for the characters is internal, and that’s probably why I enjoyed it so much. Their internal self-critical voices were very realistic. And I really loved the growth in the relationship between two teen girls. They were thoughtful, loving, and great role models for anyone seeking healthy relationship dynamics. Plus I really appreciated Jack and her quirky relationship with the world.

In summary - great characters, ok stories, and a good listen (though I did slow down the speed 1 notch).

I do really love Rain, as a character, and I’m so glad Gregory McGuire has decided to continue this story line. Other reviewers have said the action is slow in this book, and it is… at first, anyway. But it is so worth it in the end! McGuire’s characters are never simple or one-dimensional. No action or reaction is all good or all evil. I suppose one might critique the amnesia storyline we’ve seen touched on before in the Wicked series, but I know that my life story involves recreating a few of my parents’ sins or coping mechanisms, so I’m not surprised that Rain has experienced a bit of the genetic inheritance of trauma…

Anyway, I’m very much looking forward to the next book in this story!

This prequel sets up the Gallagher girls series ( which I have not read). It was a reasonably charming tale of the first week of school, but perhaps a bit heavy-handed in telling us about teen insecurity rather than showing us... and a “happy ending” with the teens now cohesive and working together. Rebecca Soler does many teenage girl narrations, and she is very good at them ... the voices of the characters do come alive. Her teenage “high drama” voice could grate after a bit, but that may be mostly the fault of the material- I don’t think I noticed it as much with other series she has performed.

Great voice work, as always. Butcher's writing is laugh aloud funny, and poignant. Thank you for these stories!
