Historia
An aging art scholar and a visiting student, haunting echoes of France's colonialist past, and a delicious navarin of lamb - Bruno is back, and his latest case leads him from the Renaissance to the French Resistance and beyond by way of a corpse at the bottom of a well. When Claudia, a young American, turns up dead in the courtyard of an ancient castle in Bruno's jurisdiction, her death is assumed to be an accident related to opioid use. But her doctor persuades Bruno that things may not be so simple.

Love the series, a bit of great food with mystery. But, really dislike the character of Pamela. Wish the author would

Highly recommend this book!

Excellent story that really brings you back to 1949 Israel. It brings to life a bit the different factions that all had the common goal of establishing the country, free of British control. Sometimes gritty, full of details and totally engrossing. I highly recommend it.

Ok, but a few things bugged me
Revisado: 08-23-21
There are two different story lines throughout the book, lightly utilizing some of her past characters. Had to force myself to get through the totally disturbing first chapter or so, but this was the basis for one of the plots. Little things - focusing on the reporter wearing stiletto boots in winter in NYC…really? Never saw anyone really wearing anything like that out there. And, from past books, we know that Dillon Savich is a vegetarian, presumably eating healthily…..so why almost bragging of his secretary making cookies totally with Splenda? No diabetics mentioned so why focus on this? This in no way would make her a ‘great baker, known for her delicious cookies (with Splenda). Sorry, just gross.
Also had to just plow through to listen to the male narrator…not my favorite.

Historia
Caitlyn Sullivan had come from a long line of Hollywood royalty, stretching back to her Irish immigrant great-grandfather. At nine, she was already a star - yet still an innocent child who loved to play hide-and-seek with her cousins at the family home in Big Sur. It was during one of those games that she disappeared. Some may have considered her a pampered princess, but Cate was in fact a smart, scrappy fighter, and she managed to escape her abductors. Callan Cooper was shocked to find the bloodied, exhausted girl huddled in his house.

Why all the Coke?
Revisado: 07-23-20
Light story, good for Covid listening....but really, why the seemingly product placement for Coke? Especially here in CA, can’t believe it is the drink of choice for so many characters, and mentioned so many times.

One of the worst books I have ever slogged through. Just plain stupid and annoying. Don’t bother.

Historia
From the author of the “engrossing” (People) and “poignant” (Booklist) international best seller The Room on Rue Amélie comes a remarkable and moving story of love, danger, and betrayal: two women in France in the darkest days of World War II and another in present-day America on a quest to uncover the secret that connects them.

Not worth it
Revisado: 09-05-19
First, the narration really bothered me. It was read by several people. The narrator in the present time was just annoying and unpleasant to listen to. During the reading of the WW II period, the reading of one of the main characters was so flighty and idiotic, it made me dislike that character even more. As others have noted a romance of sorts with war in the background. It all seemed so idiotic that you just wanted to scream at the characters. Not much substance given, just bits of the times causing what the characters would do. Really did not like it at all and found it very contrived.
