Historia
Following a remarkable epoch of greater dispersion of wealth and opportunity, we are inexorably returning towards a more feudal era marked by greater concentration of wealth and property, reduced upward mobility, demographic stagnation, and increased dogmatism. If the last 70 years saw a massive expansion of the middle class, not only in America but in much of the developed world, today that class is declining and a new, more hierarchical society is emerging. The new class structure resembles that of Medieval times.

Politically unbiased and timely

This book is a rare find. It is a very good analysis of our contemporary society and economics without being either left or right. One of the most important books I have read the past years

Historia
For the first time in history, the world shut itself down - by choice - all for fear of a virus, COVID-19, that wasn’t well understood. The government, with the support of most Americans, ordered the closure of tens of thousands of small businesses - many never to return. Almost every school and college in the country sent its students home to finish the school year in front of a computer. Churches cancelled worship services. “Social distancing” went from a non-word to a moral obligation overnight.

The most important book of the year!
Revisado: 10-30-20
Timely and well researched. This book is written by a biologist, statistician and a priest (yes, a priest). They give very clear statistical argument for criticizing how most western governments have handled the COVID situation. They ask the questions that the media does not allow, such as “is the cure worse than the disease?” By far the most important book of the year

Historia
In Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, Raoul Duke (Thompson) and his attorney Dr. Gonzo (inspired by a friend of Thompson) are quickly diverted to search for the American dream. Their quest is fueled by nearly every drug imaginable and quickly becomes a surreal experience that blurs the line between reality and fantasy. But there is more to this hilarious tale than reckless behavior, for underneath the hallucinogenic facade is a stinging criticism of American greed and consumerism.

Exaclty what you expect, and perfect narration
Revisado: 10-31-11
This is a classic. You all know what it's about (drugs). And it's exactly what you expect.
The narration is just perfect. He nails the mood of the situation and the character of Thompson.
Haha. His attorney is a really funny guy.

Historia
Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon have undergone many hair-raising adventures before - but never one quite like this. Jungles come in many forms. There are the steamy rain forests of the Burmese highlands. There are the lies and betrayals of the world of covert operations. And there are the dark and twisted thoughts of a man bent on near-global domination. To pull off their latest mission, Cabrillo and his remarkable men and women must survive them all.

It's an action novel, and very American
Revisado: 10-31-11
It's an action-novel. As though the author have seen Die Hard too many times. If you like that, then that's fine.
It actually tries to be a crime-thriller though, sucking you in by hiding information and make you wondering what's going on - just like Dan Brown is so good at. And Clive Cussler does this well in the first one-third of the novel. After that it becomes a bit predictable, full of cliches etc.
Be aware, its a very American novel. And very post-9/11. I'm European and study International Relations, and there are some things in this book that are just waaaay off.
But still, it's enjoyable. Good narration. It's easy, like watching a block buster. But not something to remember.

Historia
Few novels have had as profound an impact on American culture as On the Road. Pulsating with the rhythms of 1950s underground America, jazz, sex, illicit drugs, and the mystery and promise of the open road, Kerouac’s classic novel of freedom and longing defined what it meant to be “beat” and has inspired generations of writers, musicians, artists, poets, and seekers who cite their discovery of the book as the event that “set them free”.

A bible!
Revisado: 06-15-10
I have some friends who have decleared this book their bible, and I can see why. It really changes your view of the world.
Will Patton as a narrator is perfect for this novel. He reads it incredibly fast though, so strap up. But that is how this novel needs to be read, because the story takes place is such a pace.
A must-read and a definite five star book!

Historia
Following years of lonely political exile in Western Europe, Ka, a middle-aged poet, returns to Istanbul to attend his mother's funeral. Only partly recognizing this place of his cultured, middle-class youth, he is even more disoriented by news of strange events in the wider country: a wave of suicides among girls forbidden to wear their head scarves at school.

This book really takes you there
Revisado: 06-15-10
I haven't read any other of Pamuk's works, but this book by itself proves him worthy of the nobel prize. His way of describing the surroundings, the athmosphere and the general mood really draws you in and takes you there. Pamuk also proves himself a mastermind of story telling. This is a deep, intriguing and engaging story. Great to listen to during the winter (especially here in Norway). I highly recommend it.
The narrator is great by the way.

Revisado: 06-15-10
If you like stand up comedy, you are going to like this one. It is obviously not the same as seing them on television or live, but it is still really funny. Also, it is a very nice way of starting your day; it gets you in a good mood and gives you a supplement of jokes to tell your friends.

Quirky characters, a hotel with a phantom floor, sexy girls, rock music, especially Talking Heads - this gloriously imaginative romp around contemporary Japan defies description. A cult novelist with a huge international following, but also with a serious literary reputation, Haruki Murakami gains more fans with each book. Dance, Dance, Dance is one of his finest and most loved.

A good book
Revisado: 04-25-09
All though not as good as After Dark and Kafka on the shore, this is a really good book. It has the mystic that characterizes Murakami's work and the Narrator - with his calm, informing form of narrating, and an immense variety in the characters' voices - is simply perfect.
If I could I would give this book a 4,5 rating, but I can't, so its a 5.
