The narrator never entered the story. This is lead up to whatever happens next. It was difficult to connect to any of the characters and dive into the plot.

Story draws you in, but the narrating is rough
Revisado: 01-29-23
Story is interesting enough that I’m curious about the next book. I thought some parts of the conflict could have been better, and the confrontations and conflicts a little more developed, but I liked the story and how the author accomplished it.
The narrator…can make or break a book. In this book, the narrator’s voice and performance were well suited to the ship’s computer voice. The lack of emotion and inflection worked great for the type of ship computer in the book. Unfortunately, the flat vocals and lack of inflection in every other character made it a slog to get through the book. At times, I thought the audio producer just put the book into an automated program to read the book. The other major distraction is that most the primary characters are American, but everyone speaks with a Canadian accent, including the non-North American characters. The few non-English phrases sounded like a machine reading words without regard for the proper pronunciation in the original language.

Great book! I looked at the length and description and doubted my thought process on getting this book. Got into it and had a hard time putting it down. Plot is good, character development great, and twists were well thought out and on point.

Historia
Every seven years, the Agon begins. As punishment for a past rebellion, nine Greek gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals. They are hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines, all eager to kill a god and seize their divine power and immortality. Long ago, Lore Perseous fled that brutal world, turning her back on the hunt’s promises of eternal glory after her family was murdered by a rival line. For years she's pushed away any thought of revenge against the man - now a god - responsible for their deaths.

This is a really good story and a great take on how the Greek Gods might have been (might be?). The author does a masterful job working her characters through this trials and tribulations.

Well worth it
Revisado: 01-24-21
I don't remember how I found this book or why I got it, but I definitely enjoyed it and am looking forward to the second book. Unfortunately the book sat in my "to listen to" list for several months before I started listening and I had totally forgotten what it was about. So, the Sisterhood's slavery bit threw me for a loop right at the start. Once I got my mind around the world the author created, I realized how intricate and detailed the world was. The author provided substantial depth to the competing societies and still hasn't revealed the entirety of how the societies shaped and continue to shape the characters.

Story is Great
Revisado: 11-14-20
The story is great and follows in line with the series. My wife bought the kindle books and I bought the audible books later for the entire series--we liked the series that much. The only downside is the narrator. He sounds bored and suffering from a constant cold--through all 3 books he narrates. He mispronounced words, such as Hormuz (Strait of Hormuz), as well as a character from Null and Void--so badly that I didn't realize he'd said the character's name and had to look up the character's name in the book to make sure I knew what the name was. Additionally, the accents are just as terrible. He does a passable French (I think), but his New England, New York, Texan, Southern, and just about every other one he attempts grates on the nerves and doesn't sound like the accent it is supposed to be. Highly re-recording with a different narrator.

Historia
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

I’ll be honest...I only grabbed this one because it was available as a free download on the Originals page. I’m really glad I took the chance. This is a very entertaining LARP book with a well established world and plot. I look forward to the next if there is one.

Great book, terrible narrator
Revisado: 10-12-19
Secretary Mattis provides a wonderful and pointed guide to leadership. I fully recommend this book to anyone seeking leadership examples and lessons. This book will be on the Commandant's Reading List in the near future. I plan to buy the physical book.
The one downside is the speed of the narrator. He was sloooooooooooooooooooooooow. This book is the only book I've ever listened to on 1.25x speed. I don't think I would have survived listening to the narrator at normal speed. I was prepared for the speed issue because of other reviews.

Revisado: 06-30-19
So totally wicked!!! (In a thick Mainer accent). This was a great ride that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The cast was cleverly selected and idea for the characters. The subtle references to Kate Mulgrew’s Janeway when talking to... Well, to say the least, this was well worth the production by the author and cast and crew, and my money to purchase it.
