Historia
Fully armed and with all hands onboard, the nuclear submarine Starbuck sailed into the calm Pacific Ocean for sea trials - and vanished. No wreckage, no signals, no survivors: nothing...until ace maritime troubleshooter Dirk Pitt finds a single chilling clue in the shark-torn surf off Hawaii - the log of the Starbuck. 'Do not search for us, it can only end in vain....' A crazed journal of madness and death is all that remains.

Fun Adventure
Revisado: 08-03-24
A fun adventure story, I really enjoyed it.
The only criticism I have is a personal opinion. However, the way female characters are described in this story did not age well. The Main character's behavior and the way he talks about women is pretty cringy too. You can definitely tell this book was written 40+ years ago.

Its great, but there is one very unrealistic part.
Revisado: 12-04-23
In a book full of magic, wizards, vampires, and more. The most unrealistic thing is that the main character pays under 500$ a month for an apartment in Chicago.
Otherwise its a great book, highly recommend.

Historia
In the mid-1870s, a violent spray of comets hits Earth, decimating cities, erasing shorelines, and changing the world's climate forever. And just as Earth's temperature dropped, so was civilization frozen in time. Instead of advancing technologically, humanity had to piece itself back together.... In the 21st century, boats still run on steam, messages arrive by telegraph, and the British Empire, with its capital now in Delhi, controls much of the world.

I want to like this book so bad.
Revisado: 11-16-23
I love the idea of the story, I love the genre, its totally the content I love. But this book is so over-written I can't handle it. Every page is just filled with so much descriptive exposition I can hardly follow it. The moment your mind strays for 5 seconds from listening you are lost.
Every scene and character gets the most long-winded descriptions, explanations etc, I can hardly follow the plot
If they come out with an abridged version that can get to the point of the plot ill listen. But I have an abridged version of this story would be about an hour long.

The story is not for me. But.....
Revisado: 11-16-23
The story and plot are not for me. But I know there are people out there who would love this type of story and genre. So I can't criticize it too much. Just because it isn't my cup of tea doesn't mean it's bad tea.
The story basically a supernatural Sherlock Holmes. I am Sherlocked out at this point and this story is just too similar. As this same storyline has been done over and over and over now. Down on their luck person looking for a job answers an ad to a rude, strange, socially inept detective and it starts a whirlwind adventure (I started another book called "Some Danger Involved" it literally has the same storyline, so I'm a bit burnt out on it.
However, it's well written, a story that is easy to follow, and not bogged down with long-winded paragraphs that don't really pertain to the story. Also the Narrator is wonderful.

Historia
When 3 Para began their assault under cover of darkness on Mount Longdon in June 1982, nobody knew what to expect. The three platoons of B Company each approached the mountain silently, treading carefully through a series of defensive minefields. But following an explosion, fighting quickly escalated with shocking speed and severity, resulting in some of the bloodiest close hand fighting, terrible injuries and shocking loss of life experienced by British troops since the Korean war.

Absolutely Fantastic
Revisado: 12-26-21
This book is absolutely wonderful. Highly recommend! The author put a great amount of time into organizing the accounts of many men who were involved in this battle. Each of their stories is incredible. Including those on both sides of the battle.
I highly recommend reviewing the included PDF prior to, and while you listen. The PDF will allow you to better visualize Mount Longdon and the glossary explaining the various military vernacular is extremely helpful

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.
