I've been a fan of the Harry Potter series since 1999 when I was 11, and I literally grew up with Harry. Listening to this podcast is like reliving those early days. When each episode is released, I listen to that episode's chapter before listening to the episode itself. I'm really excited to hear their thoughts on the whole series. I've been a fan of them for many, many years.

(contains spoilers)

I'd never heard it before in it's entirety, and I'm sure most people haven't because when I hear it talked about, it's basically like, "Haha, people were so stupid and gullible back them!". But, like...I highly recommend listening to it. I now understand why it caused such a panick. It begins by announcing it's a dramatic production of the novel, then has a music break. After, they have a special announcement, an interview with an astronomer talking about a series of explosions on Mars. He says he doubts it's anything to worry about. But then they abruptly interrupt the broadcast to bring you a report of cylinders falling across the country. They take you to a reporter on the scene, and while he's talking, the cylinder opens and starts attacking people, and you hear people screaming. It's presented as an ongoing news broadcast.

If you missed the beginning where they announced that it was a dramatic performance of War of the Worlds, it's very easy to see why someone at the time would have assumed it was real. It's not until forty minutes in that they cut in to say, "You are listening to a CBS Radio Broadcast dramatic performance of The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells". After that, they drop the news broadcast format and cut to character dialogue like a regular radio drama.

Even though I knew it was a dramatic performance, even I got freaked out listening to the first forty minutes. Imagine being there in the moment and not knowing. I fully understand why people fell for it now.

Who knew there was so much to say about Titanic?

I've always been interested in Titanic, but even I was skeptical that a long-form podcast (as opposed to a limited series) would be a good idea when I first heard of this. I mean, what all could be said about Titanic that hasn't already been said?

Well, turns out the answer is "alot!", because every time I think Alexia has covered everything that can be covered, she goes and surprises me again. From having relatives of the passengers on to experts in the field, to even just ordinary people who are interested in the topic, this show covers anything and everything Titanic, and even some things not related to Titanic, but adds context to surrounding events. Like, before this show, I never knew there was a miner's strike which led to a coal shortage that had an impact on the event. Little details like that and more are discussed on this always interesting podcast!

Great San Francisco podcast!

Living in San Francisco, it's cool having this podcast which tells lesser-known stories about my city. A couple of the stories she tells, I actually live not far from where they took place. Another episode covered a location I pass every day and never thought anything of. There's literally thousands of untold stories living around us, and this podcast has made me start to wonder about what those could be as I go about my day.

I've been listening to this podcast for awhile and I love how Stephanie is such a great storyteller. Even if it's a story I already know, she manages to make it feel like a new story. To the point where I don't look up cases beforehand because it'd feel like a spoiler. Sometimes she'll tell the story in a "who's going to die?" way, so looking up someone would definitely spoil the story. By telling it this way, it actually makes me care for the victims more than had she just listed the facts or told the story in a straightforward manner. I'll often keep looking up cases after listening to an episode instead of just moving to the next episode, because she actually makes me care about these people.

How can you not love Betty?

Betty White was one of the most pure people who ever lived, and that's shown here very obviously. It's hard not to get emotional listening to her, especially when she's talking about animals and her own pets, and especially knowing that she's gone now. This book, and more specifically this audiobook narrated by her, is the best encapsulation of who she was.

Columbine Audiolibro Por Dave Cullen arte de portada

Best General Columbine Book I've Ever Read

I've read Rachel's Tears, and I still consider that the best Columbine Book, but that just focuses on her. This is the best book about the event in general I've ever read. I already knew alot about it, and am always correcting people when they repeat the long debunked myths about the tragedy, but I learned so much more in this book than all my previous research combined! It's the most in-depth look into it, and it's obvious Dave Cullen took his ten years of investigating seriously.

As for the reading by Don Leslie, I was amazed at how he managed to express the emotions of the "characters" talking, believably showing anger when reading Eric's angry journal entries, or fear when quoting a student immediately after they escaped. His narration was perfect for this book.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to both people who know alot about it, and those who don't know anything about it.

I'm largely fascinated with this event in history, and thoroughly enjoyed listening to full-length radio recordings and eyewitness interviews. I only wish it had been longer.
