Historia
Since the day Lord Dillon earned his spurs, rumors of his savagery on the battlefield have preceded him into every room, stilling tongues and sparking fear. Weary of battle, he wishes only to find a woman he can wed who will approach him not with fear but with the tenderness that has been absent from his life for so long. Yet only the wisewoman seems invariably at ease in his presence.

Love will always find a way
Revisado: 07-22-24
An outstanding listen. Kristen Potter's narration was excellent. She never tried to make her men sound really deep voiced like many do and the characters sounded right. Thank you Kristen. The story moves at a perfect pace and the tale is really good. I listened in one sitting and it flew by. If you like historical romances with real substance listen to or read this. You will like the characters in this story too.

All her birds are extraordinary to Susan - loyal, intelligent, beautiful - but none more so than Duchess, who shares a special bond with Susan and an unusual curiosity about the human world.

True love is always in your heart
Revisado: 08-24-20
This is an outstanding book. It is full of sorrow and discovery for the two main characters and shows the hardship and struggles that the English went through during the London bombings by Nazi Germany. It is so well done and from the first pages you are ready to keep going. Ollie's horrible loss of his parents which sent him to England in the first place and Susan's work with Warbirds (Pigeons) draws you in completely. It was great to watch the relationship between two people who probably in normal times would never have met each other grow into a very special time together. You will learn a lot about how these pigeons were trained and how much difference they made in the war effort for England. I won't put spoilers in here but will just say you should take the time to listen to this book. Simon Vance does a magnificent job with this one. All the characters are so well done. There is so much story here. Just enjoy it.

Historia
Sophie Appersett is quite willing to marry outside of her class to ensure the survival of her family. But the darkly handsome Mr. Edward Sharpe is no run-of-the-mill London merchant. He's grim and silent. A man of little emotion - or perhaps no emotion at all. After two months of courtship, she's ready to put an end to things. But severing ties with her taciturn suitor isn't as straightforward as Sophie envisioned.

Sometimes love really does sneak up on you
Revisado: 02-14-20
Loved this book. A quick and easy listen. Characters that I liked very much. Alex Wyndham does a wonderful narration. One of the few who do women's voices well. The romance of the story is very straight laced as befits the period and a few misunderstandings make it interesting. Happiness in the end for all who are seeking it. Will listen again.

Historia
Lord Michael Dunham is bored of society, bored of fickle women, but above all that, he is afraid. His father suffered from madness, and Michael is terrified that he will inherit the same affliction. He scrutinizes his every mood swing, his every expression, to see if he can detect any signs that he is developing the symptoms. It blights his life. He has determined that he will never marry, putting a wife through the same that his mother suffered, and he certainly will never have children. The disease will die with him.

Unwanted guardianship brings Sur[rising rewards
Revisado: 10-22-19
This book surprised me. Lord Michael Dunham ends up with a ward due to a promise his father made to a good friend years ago. He does not want a ward and had rather stay in the country but will honor the promise made. Elizabeth Rufford the ward, has no desire for a season in London and wants to buy an estate in the country and manage it as she did her home until her father died from a lengthy illness. Having no brother to inherit it the estate went to her cousin. The cousin easily influenced by his wife who did not like Elizabeth , decided to send her to Lord Dunham since her father had set up the guardianship. The two have a very funny first meeting and she lets him know she is not interested in marriage or a season. He wants her to at least have one season before he will help her find a property to buy and take care of as she has told him that is her desire. The develop a wonderful friendship but Michael although he knows he is beginning to care for her will not marry. He believes that his father was mad and that one day he will go mad too. He will not leave a wife and children to deal with that as he and his sister had to do. He is a very good person and the two have several misunderstandings but in the end despite all things they will find a way to each other.

Ambrose Young was beautiful. He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She'd been reading them since she was 13. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have...until he wasn't beautiful anymore.

A truly wonderful listen.......Don't Miss this one
Revisado: 03-26-18
There were not many reviews of this book but since I like stories that are about overcoming the worst things life throws at you I gave it a try. I am so thankful that I did. It is extremely well written and you become completely involved with the characters. This is a wonderful story with so much emotion on so many levels. Because it goes back and forth in time you really learn a lot about all of the characters. Ambrose Young who looks like a cover model is the guy all the girls want. Fern Taylor, the pastor's daughter has fiery red hair, thick glasses , and braces. She knows that he would never want her. That does not stop her from dreaming of what she wishes it could be like to be the object of his attention. Fern has some strong self image issues due mostly to something she overheard as a child. Ambrose and his four best friends from the wrestling team all join the Army and try to make a difference in the world after 9/11 destroys their image of safety and security. Ambrose pretty much pushes his friends into joining up but it does not take much persuasion. Only Ambrose comes home and the pain of the loss of his best friends is strong. He is horribly scarred and no longer had the cover model face. Cousins Bailey and Fern are all that unconditional love represents with the way they take care of each other. They are best friends as well. Bailey has Duchenne muscular dystrophy and is wheelchair bound. Fern has taken care of him for years. She helps him do the things he can't do on his own. Bailey has a remarkable outlook on life though he knows that his will be a short one. He may actually be my favorite character in the whole book. He helps Fern cope with what she deems as her shortcomings. They are wonderful people and you want so much for Bailey and Fern to have happy endings. I will not give any spoilers here but fair warning, when you get to Chapter 28, you will not have dry eyes by the end of it. It broke my heart. It was so well done on audible. Rob Shapiro did a tremendous job on this. The females were very well done and not annoying as is sometimes the case. I will listen to this many times and always have my tissues ready at Chapter 28. Take a chance on this book. You will not be sorry.

Sensual awakening and Salvation ahead
Revisado: 03-11-18
I loved this book. Have listened to and read the whole series. Do not miss out on the wonderful voice of John Morgan for it is a delight to listen to. So sad that he is no longer with us. Was saddened to hear of his passing. Gabriel Emmerson is a Dante specialist at the University of Toronto and a very sexy man dealing with many issues from his past. Julia Mitchell is his sister's best friend and has had a crush on him since she came home with his sister from college for a visit years earlier and saw his picture on the fridge. She actually meets him years after and spends a night with him in the orchard behind the house. Nothing sexual happens between them but that night changes Julia forever. She enrolls in his course in Toronto for Dante and thus begins a truly great love story. I will not put spoilers here because you really need to listen to this book and then you need to get the next two in the series and listen to them. The rewards will be well worth it. Excellent support characters through all the series. Well developed plot and sizzling sex scenes in each one. Just enjoy

It wasn't the way this kind of story was supposed to go...insta-love isn't supposed to turn into insta-hate. But that's exactly what happened when the dreamboat I met in a bar turned out to be a lying, cheating scumbag looking for nothing but a little side action. And he has the nerve to call me a liar and a "sociopath"? Asshole. And now, three months later, it turns out my boss is marrying his sister in Hawaii and I've got to play nice with him for an entire freaking week.

Unexpected journey leads to true home
Revisado: 03-29-14
This is the story of Derek Vanguard, Lord of Braddock Hall and Morgan (Morgana) Hayes. Morgan becomes entangled with a suit of armor in the antique store owned by her adopted mother. She has always loved this suit of armor and wondered who the knight was that had owned the suit originally. Little does she know that she is a woman out-of-time. She was born in Medieval England but sent to the future by a witch to save her life. She is transported back in time where she becomes entangled with the owner of said armor. She meets and falls in love with Derek who is that knight.
Derek is a good man but his heart has been hardened because he thinks he was abandoned by his mother and failed as a child to ever gain the love of his father. He is the favored knight of King Henry and the king wants him to marry. He has chosen a bride for Derek and the bride is Amanda Forrester who is the twin sister that Morgan does not know she has. She remembers some history but there are many gaps which make it hard for her to adjust to some things. She doesn't even know how to wear her clothes correctly.
She grows to care for Derek very quickly though she does not realize for some time that he is the knight who owned the armor. In the twentieth century she had learned that the owner of the armor had been ambushed on the way to recover his true love. She thinks she was sent back in time to save his life. She tries to tell him she is from the future but he does not believe her. There is a past fling for Derek that is not a good person and she of course causes problems. There are many things she does that he just accepts and does not question much. The bathing attire she and the ladies were on a outing really feels out of place here but it is short lived and passed off as a French fashion.
It is a nice love story overall and I enjoyed it very much. I found it very entertaining. As for Katherine Kellergen's performance, I would like for her to have yelled a little less and slowed the pace down a little more when I first listened to it. I listened again however and think that the pacing and volume did pretty well fit the story. I do wish that her voice for Derek had been different. He did not come across as the strong character I would like to have heard from him. It was not bad but not what I really wanted to hear. I have other things she has done and they are good.
This is a good book and worth a credit.

Tale of historical murder and unexpected love
Revisado: 03-28-14
This story gives us a different view of what might have taken place in Canterbury when Thomas Becket was murdered. Sir Benedict Palmer is a mercenary who is trying to raise himself out of the poverty he has always lived in. He goes on a mission that will indeed give him a great purse with which to give him the life he thinks he wants. The mission is with 4 other knights and concerns the arrest of Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Becket. King Henry has had a disagreement with him and many in England consider Becket a traitor because of it. The arrest turns into murder and is witnessed by Theodisia, a young nun. She is then kidnaped by the knights. As it turns out though there is much more to her than Palmer thinks and she was not accidentally taken. She is not just a nun. It quickly becomes apparent that once they get to the castle of one of the four knights she will most likely not survive. Palmer is her only hope.
Her faith is all she has known since she was very young and she struggles with being out in the world as she had expected never to do so. She was to be the Anchoress of Canterbury. Palmer carries her on his horse for the journey to the castle and they begin to develop a relationship along the way. Since she never expected to be with a man as other women are she is unprepared for the feelings she is beginning to have. A real struggle rages inside of her. Their feelings for each other develop slowly but are handled very well. There are several twists and turns and of course some ups and downs. The Fifth Knight is not who you think it is. That really did surprise me but fit just perfectly into the storyline.
James Langton did a really good job or narrating the book. His voices were a very good mixture and easy to identify the characters. The women's voices were well done also. I felt like he had a real feeling for the characters and was not just reading them like some do. I will look for more from him.
The book is 11 1/2 hours but so worth your time. Don't hesitate to buy this one.

He was once a legendary highwayman. Now he's a recluse in a ruined French castle, with only a half-wild wolf for a companion. When Lady Leigh Strachan comes looking for a man to aid in her revenge, she's disillusioned to find that the famed Prince of Midnight couldn't help even if he cared to - which he doesn't. S. T. Maitland wants nothing to do with his legend, or with this fierce, beautiful, broken woman... until the old thrill of living on the cutting edge of danger begins to rise in his blood again.

Highwayman saves the lady
Revisado: 03-28-14
This is such a good book. It is very lengthy, 15.17 hours to be exact. Worth every second that you listen to it. Laura Kinsale does an excellent job of building her characters and their relationship to each other. A wolf plays a key role in this story as well. Our hero S. T. Maitland, better known as The Prince of Midnight when he was an aristocrat who also happened to be a highwayman, is complex and intelligent. The heroine Leigh, whom he calls Sunshine is a very deep character and sometimes hard to relate to for me. She is on a mission of revenge for actions that caused the loss of her family and in France to try and gain his help. What she does not know is that he has balance issues due to an ear problem that stopped him from being the highwayman.
Of course he does go back to England with Leigh as she has awakened some of the old feelings he had as to his life on the edge style of living before, and because he already cares for her. He has been alone a long time except for the wolf that has been his companion. The object of Leigh's hate is a maniacal preacher type who has most of the village under his control and naturally S. T. and Leigh will fall into his clutches. These two really are the focus of this book. No secondary characters that appear all the way through the story. Their coming to terms with each other and their situation are the story. The wolf is the closest thing to a secondary character.
S. T. has a real way with horses which shows up in the story too. Particularly at the end of the book. That scene will make you want to ride a horse with you loved one too. Break out the fans ladies. Sexy indeed. Speaking of that. Nicholas Boulton is one of the sexiest voices out there and he does an outstanding job here. He gives each man and woman's voice a distinction and the scene where he pretends to be drunk is truly great. Once you hear him you will be looking for anything he narrates. I would listen to a phone book read if he was doing the reading. Great, Great, Great voice.
They say a great book is one you have in your library to read and read again and I say the same is true of a great listen. I have listened to this book many times and it truly only gets better every time.
If you are looking for a fantastic listen. This is it. Just buy it.
