Shakespeare should be named as a co-author! To be honest, he probably wrote more than half of this book!

I think this is a pretty realistic description of what loosing one's mind looks like. I do recommend this book and I would love to read more from the author.

Nice start, not enjoyable second half
Revisado: 04-04-22
I liked first half of the book. But then at a certain point it just turned into torture porn. Yeah, I know, it's Karin Slaughter book, I should have seen it coming ... But honestly, I am not enough into that genre to enjoy reading pages after pages about piss-waterboarding and similar activities.
Performance is very good.

Not quite sure about this one
Revisado: 03-23-22
I enjoyed this book untill last hour or so. The endless moralisation at the end was excessive and it turned me off. That's why I am giving it 3 stars instead of 4 (as I initially intended).
I respect that author wanted to stress the importance of victims, their families and friends rather than making it all about the 'boogey man', the killer. At the same time I missed at least some criticism about the society or/and system or/and death penalty. I cannot agree with her permise that it is not important to ask ourselves: 'WHY has a monster become a monster'?
You know, wink wink, there is another book about teenager serial killer called Kevin - just go and read that one before you start stating too loud how good is this one.

Boooooring
Revisado: 03-20-22
There is absolutely no reason why it would be better to read this version than the original Greek myth. There is a lot of internal monologue, but the story of what has happened could be told on no more than 20 pages.
Until now I thought Ariadne to be cool, but in this version she is pretty much whining all the time. She contemplates and contemplates what she should do, and this is more or less followed by her inaction, at least untill the very end.
Also, way too much of misandry in this book for my taste - and I consider myself to be a feminist!
I also disliked the narrator. Her voice is as bland as the story.

Historia
When Freya Miller is struck by tragedy, losing her husband and her home within a short time, she is burdened with many worries. The main one being where she and her five-year old daughter, Skye, are going to live. A chance meeting with the charismatic Dr Marsden changes all that. He offers the young mother the most amazing opportunity: an apartment at one of London’s most exclusive addresses for a fraction of the market rental cost. It’s an offer Freya simply can’t refuse.

Very unbelievable story
Revisado: 02-18-22
The plot of this book is pretty dumb, in my opinion of course. I do not have that much of a problem with crazy experiment part, but how Freya acts as a mother is really unbelievable.
Her daughter is 5 years old (not a small baby!) and it does not occur to Freya that the best solution to her financial problems would be to find a job? She rather takes the offer for super chic apartment at increadibly low price from a weird guy she does not know and cannot be googled --- and it doesn't cross her mind that someone is going to steal her kidneys or something???When her daughter is about to swap schools, she handles situation in the worst possible way, traumatising poor kid for life. The quality time she spends with her brat consists of interrogating her about daily traumasis and/or eating dinner in front of tv. And when weird Amytiville likethings start happening, she does not pack her things and run and protect her child, but rather decides to investigate.
The narrator is horrible too. She finishes every sentence Freya says with annoying 'ah' at the end and makes the five years old kiddo sound like the Wicked Witch of the West.
Oh, and by the way, to my knowledge no one ever succeded to replicate Pavlov's experiment. Conditioning in that way - even in dogs - is under a great questionmark, I believe.

It’s bad enough that its venom-dripping chelicerae can slice through flesh like warm butter. Worse? It’s right there under the bunk. It’s a fact now. To make it through the night, the children must obey the rules: don’t get out of bed, stay out of the shadows, and don’t wake the beast. But as the threats multiply, so do the rules of survival. And with the safety of dawn still hours away, the fun is just beginning.

Not my cup of tea
Revisado: 01-16-22
What have I just read? This is a bizarre mongrel of Victoria Holt novel and Fifty Shades of Grey. I grew out of Victoria Holt books about the time when I was 12, and Fifty Shades is (in my opinion) one of the worst books ever written. In short, it is a childish book for unmature audience. But you might like it, if you still dig old Victoria H.
Regarding performance - I had to listen it on 1,6x speed, otherwise I couldn't follow as the narrator reads really slowy.

Historia
Tabitha is not a murderer. When a body is discovered in Okeham, England, Tabitha is shocked to find herself being placed in handcuffs. It must be a mistake. She’d only recently moved back to her childhood hometown, not even getting a chance to reacquaint herself with the neighbors. How could she possibly be a murder suspect? As Tabitha is shepherded through the system, her entire life is picked apart and scrutinized - her history of depression and medications, her decision to move back to a town she supposedly hated, and her past relationship with the victim, her former teacher.

Procedural drama like you've never read before!
Revisado: 12-27-21
Have you always been a fan of lawyers shouting 'I object!' in court? Well, let's say that this book has a little unorthodox approach to the thing. Main character in quite unlikable and the ending is a bit weak, but overall it was a lot of fun to listen to.
Performance is great. I would recommend to all genre lovers.

Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

I don't understand the hype about this book
Revisado: 12-25-21
I've read magnificent reviews about this novel and I decided to buy it. Then I started to read it and I didn't really like it. After first chapters I stumbled uppon all the one star reviews on Goodreads and they all made so much sense that and I was like: 'Damn, I should have seen those earlier. Too bad I spent a credit on this one.'
But after a while the book started to pick up a little bit, so I continued and I also managed to finish it.
I don't think it is a good one, but I do not find it crappy enough for only one star. It is very naive, the characters are unremarkable and the part about the diamond is just plain stupid. I've read a lot of reviews praising the richness of language of this book - I could not disagree more. Continous enumeration of everything doesn't equal great quality of the prose.
Another thing I did not care about in this novel is timeline. The story jumps from one point in time to another, however there is absolutely no reason for that. It would make so much more sense to tell it in linear way.
Now some positivecwords. I cannot say that WW2 is not my favourtite genre, but I've read some great books about war, like The Kindly ones and Catch 22. This one does not come near that quality. However, it does deserve more then one star. It is readable and I understand that the author wanted to make point about regular people who endured the war. Not all people who survived were heroes. However all the survivors bear their scars. I liket that notion and I also liked the ending and the fact that a lot of things stayed unresolved and unfinished.
Regarding performance - performer is very mediocre and he does not pronounce French and German words correctly. In this case mispronounciation bothered me a lot.
Overall, I would not recommend spending money on this book. But if you have an option to get/borrow a free copy, go for it.
