Historia
"The Lottery," one of the most terrifying stories of the twentieth century, created a sensation when it was first published in the New Yorker. "Powerful and haunting," and "nights of unrest" were typical reader responses. This collection, the only one to appear during Jackson's lifetime, unites "The Lottery" with 24 equally unusual stories. Together they demonstrate her remarkable range - from the hilarious to the truly horrible - and power as a storyteller.

The Lottery and Nothing Else
Revisado: 04-02-24
This is 9 hours of the ramblings of a neurotic housewife and The Lottery. One of the narrators read so slowly, I put a book on 1.5x for the first time ever.

Historia
"From the devastating surprise attack on Pearl Harbor to America’s first bold counterstrike against the Japanese on the beaches of Guadalcanal, this compelling story takes you to the front lines of victory and defeat - and into the very heart of courage, loyalty, and valor. It is a heroic story of pride and passion you will never forget.... Griffin’s books are distinguished by their high action and suspense, his dashing irreverence toward high command, and his clear picture of war and its wartime leaders.” (The Florida Times-Union)

I love the series, but this book wasn't good. It's a side quest for a bunch of peripheral characters and new comers. 20 hours of not much else.

Discussing everything from the meaning of the Second Amendment to the stated rules around Supreme Court nominations, Sheehan walks us through the entire Constitution, from its preamble to its final amendment. He also offers a bonus section on the Declaration of Independence. Extra-credit information throughout on things like amendments that were never passed and what powers elected officials actually have, gives listeners all the information they need to be informed and effective voters and citizens.

OMG It's Like the Constitution but w/ Curse Word
Revisado: 11-22-21
If you are too lazy to read the Constitution, this could be for you. His analysis / opinions are that of a high school student in civics class. I find it interesting that he praises our forgotten founding father James Madison, but then never incorporates The Federalist Papers into any of his analysis / opinions.

Historia
Filled with magic, heroism, and all-too-human characters, Bujold's Sharing Knife saga is both a gripping adventure and a poignant romance. The farmers and riverfolk have long distrusted the power of the mysterious and aloof Lakewalkers. The proud Lakewalkers, meanwhile, have exiled Dag after learning of his marriage to Fawn, the first outsider to be bound to a Lakewalker in their magical way. But as Dag's natural Lakewalker ability to manipulate "ground energy" begins to develop in dangerous directions, he and Fawn realize that big changes are ahead.

Just OK
Revisado: 02-04-21
McMaster's writing is superb, but this story is too slow in many places and rushes through climax. 14 hours of floating down the river. 30 minutes, find the bad guys, collect a posse and defeat them.

Tedious
Revisado: 01-09-21
It pains me to say this, because I’m a huge Sanderson fan, but this book is boring. 55 hours of void light, life light, storm light theory and PTSD. It’s also Cosmere heavy. I’ve read or listened to every Cosmere book and novella multiple times. While listening to this book I spent a ton of time on the 17th Shard trying to remember all the tie in.

Historia
No one skewers the popular movements of American culture like Tom Wolfe. In 1975, he turned his satirical pen to the pretensions of the contemporary art world - a world of social climbing, elitist posturing, and ingeniously absurd self-justifying theorizing. From the fuliginous flatness of the 50s to the pop op minimal 60s, right on through the now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t 70s, Tom Wolfe debunks the great American myth of modern art in an incandescent, hilarious, and devastating blast.

Wish It Was Longer
Revisado: 10-05-20
I really enjoyed the book, but wish it was more in depth. Maybe I just knew too little about modern art. I found myself stopping and research the artists, critics and patrons mentioned in the book.

Historia
Sinclair Rutherford is a young Seattle cop with a taste for the finer things. Doing menial tasks and getting hassled by superiors he doesn't respect are definitely not "finer things". Good police work and bad luck lead him to crack a case that changes quickly from a career-making break into a high-profile humiliation when footage of his pursuit of the suspect - wildly inappropriate murder weapon in hand - becomes an Internet sensation.

Incomplete
Revisado: 09-23-20
I enjoy Meyer's sense of humor, so this books gets 3 stars for that. Two things bother me. First, they create a group of specialist to solve crimes using unorthodox methods, but then they solve the crime using plain old detective work. Second, this feels more like a pilot for a new cop / pi comedy than a stand alone novel. Since I'm writing a review 5 years after it's release, I'm assuming no sequel is forthcoming. Meyer's spends some time character building, but not enough time for me to care about any of them. Then the crime they solve is pretty pedestrian, no more interesting then an episode of Magnum P.I (or insert other more relevant tv show).

Historia
Martin and his friends discovered that their world is computer generated and that by altering the code they could alter reality. They traveled back in time to Medieval England to live as wizards. Almost everything they've done since then has, in one way or another, blown up in their faces. So of course they decide to make dragons. It does not go well.

Any additional comments?
This is just a fun story. It’s a novella that was stretched to 10 hours. It doesn’t do anything to advance the series. I wish I used my credit on something else and waited for this to come on sale.

Historia
My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me. So begins a tale told from his own point of view - a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Good Story, Progressing Slowly
Revisado: 08-06-12
Any additional comments?
It is a good story. I just assumed that it was a trilogy (day 1, 2 & 3) when I started it. The only way this is a trilogy is if the next book’s plotlines move three times the speed of this book. I’m stuck in enough fantasy series that are going nowhere quickly; I didn’t want to start another one.

A Harvard Business School student pays over $200 for a $20 bill. Washington, D.C., commuters ignore a free subway concert by a violin prodigy. A veteran airline pilot attempts to take off without control-tower clearance and collides with another plane on the runway. Why do we do the wildly irrational things we sometimes do?

I got this book during a sale. It has some fun facts in it that I would have liked the author to expand on. I would not have purchased for the list price, nor would I waste a credit on it.
