Well written - rarely write a review but this book is different
Revisado: 11-17-24
I’ve listened to more than 600 books and this book is set apart from all the others. I’m buying it in hard back to keep a copy and several others to gift.
The character development. The depth of meaning of humanity regarding good vs evil. The complexity of relationship with God during difficult times. The words not said trusting the reader is intelligent. This is an instant classic. Will be remembered among the greatest reads ever.

Cannibalism is not a main plot that draws readers. Stopped when this was evidently going to be the focus.

AG’s personal memoirs have a few interesting twists and turns but rarely is AG the Lady in Waiting - do the title is misleading as is the intro.

I won’t be reading the next book in the series
Revisado: 12-20-20
The performance was well done which helped me continue listening. However, the speaker’s throat clearing/coughing should have been edited out. Sloppy. Also, this YA book had too many generalizations about Portland, tea drinkers, naturopathy-types, and troubled single family homes. Cliché upon cliché. The lack of virtuous or redeeming qualities in most of the characters made this story latch depth. I was amused by the detailed vegan recipes but later, they felt like filler. Lastly, I couldn’t find a reason to empathize with any of the characters except maybe Dorian.
The main character lacked maturity, depth, self awareness and wisdom they one would expect from someone who has been alive for more then 300 years. How sad that one with so much available to her over three centuries was so small minded and self absorbed in the 21st century. What a waste of talent. She seemed clueless other then her send of smell.

Listen to understand some of the meaning behind some songs told by a great story teller
Revisado: 05-30-20
Thank you for sharing a piece of your past with us, James Taylor.
He tells the story of his early years. So many poignant moments that shaped his music and explain his public persona.
I’ve been to many of his concerts. He’s shared parts of these stories in concert but he’s such a good story teller and it all comes together. I had no idea some much happened before the age of 21.

Historia
Secrets, mistaken identities, surprise revelations, amnesia, locked rooms and locked asylums, and an unorthodox villain made this mystery thriller an instant success when it first appeared in 1860, and it has continued to enthrall ever since. From the hero's foreboding before his arrival at Limmeridge House to the nefarious plot concerning the beautiful Laura, the breathtaking tension of Collins's narrative created a new literary genre of suspense fiction, which profoundly shaped the course of English popular writing.
