Historia
Half-hidden by forest and overshadowed by threatening peaks, Le Sommet has always been a sinister place. Long plagued by troubling rumors, the former abandoned sanatorium has since been renovated into a five-star minimalist hotel. An imposing, isolated getaway spot high up in the Swiss Alps is the last place Elin Warner wants to be. But Elin's taken time off from her job as a detective, so when her estranged brother, Isaac, and his fiancée, Laure, invite her to celebrate their engagement at the hotel, Elin really has no reason not to accept.

Great narration, dull story
Revisado: 04-11-21
The story was promising, the narrator was fantastic, but the execution fell short. I ended up returning the book before finishing it, that’s how little I was invested in the overall mystery and story.

Probably Better Read
Revisado: 03-27-21
The story seemed promising, but the narration was so incredibly slow I found myself zoning out. Kindle has the average reading time listed at around 8 hours, yet this audiobook clocks in at just under 12 hours, if that helps indicate just how slowly the narrator reads. I think this would be a better read than a listen.

Historia
There are two sides to every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, his and hers. Which means someone is always lying. When a woman is murdered in Blackdown, a quintessentially British village, newsreader Anna Andrews is reluctant to cover the case. Detective Jack Harper is suspicious of her involvement, until he becomes a suspect in his own murder investigation. Someone isn’t telling the truth, and some secrets are worth killing to keep.

Twisty thriller, but drags at the end

Minor spoiler below....
This was a fun enough listen, a good way to waste a day and a half in quarantine. The narration was fantastic, and an interesting choice was made in how to narrate the interspersed passages clearly written by the killer. However, I do tire of books nowadays that introduce an animal or pet, only to kill or cruelly treat them in order to shock the reader. Perhaps it’s sad we are all so desensitized to humans being murdered that writers now kill pets to elicit shock or terror. As soon as the cat was mentioned my brain went “uh oh... bye bye sweet little kitty... I’m sure you deserved better”
