Historia
A storm. Rain-lashed city streets. A flash of lightning. A scruffy lad sees a girl leap desperately from a horse-drawn carriage in a vain attempt to escape her captors. Can the lad stand by and let her be caught again? Of course not, because he's...Dodger. Seventeen-year-old Dodger may be a street urchin, but he gleans a living from London's sewers, and he knows a jewel when he sees one. He's not about to let anything happen to the unknown girl - not even if her fate impacts the most powerful people in England.

Hopeful while not dodging the "terrible algebra"
Revisado: 09-09-22
I so appreciate Pratchett's willingness to look at some pretty terrible aspects of humanity with hopefulness that our better nature will prevail. Quite a fun mashup of Oliver Twist, too.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

loved the narrator and the story
Revisado: 08-01-21
No spoilers here...we enjoyed it so much, the whole family pledged to listen to it together so as not to accidentally spoil anything. The narrator was perfect and really added so much to the story. Enjoy!

Historia
War has come to Discworld...again. And, to no one's great surprise, the conflict centers around the small, insufferably arrogant, strictly fundamentalist duchy of Borogravia, which has long prided itself on its ability to beat up on its neighbors. This time, however, it's Borogravia that's getting its long-overdue comeuppance, which has left the country severely drained of young men.

Historia
There’s more to the swamplands than meets the teeth. In this supernatural tale of magic and mysticism, Henry Lemarchand grew up in Philadelphia knowing very little of his family—his father disappeared when he was young, leaving behind only a strange pouch of animal teeth. When he is sent to the Louisiana bayou to spend the summer with his eccentric uncle and cousin in their decaying ancestral mansion, Henry learns about his family’s supernatural legacy.

Historia
It's not easy being Apollo, especially when you've been turned into a human and banished from Olympus. On his path to restoring five ancient oracles and reclaiming his godly powers, Apollo (a.k.a. Lester Papadopoulos) has faced both triumphs and tragedies. Now, his journey takes him to Camp Jupiter in the San Francisco Bay Area, where the Roman demigods are preparing for a desperate last stand against the evil Triumvirate of Roman emperors. Hazel, Reyna, Frank, Tyson, Ella, and many other old friends will need Apollo's aid to survive the onslaught.

Series keeps getting better!
Revisado: 09-29-19
I enjoyed this installment very much. Apollo's character continues to improve and I enjoy seeing how the storylines of other beloved characters are doing. I particularly appreciate the diversity of the cast. Both male and female characters are strong and win the day. Both can be scared, sad, and grieve.

After angering his father, Zeus, the god Apollo is cast down from Olympus. Weak and disoriented, he lands in New York City as a regular teenage boy. But Apollo has many enemies - gods, monsters, and mortals who would love to see the former Olympian permanently destroyed.

we listen to this over and over
Revisado: 01-20-19
We love the Tiffany Aching series and are happy that the kids are finally getting old enough to enjoy it, too. It's helpful to have a heroine who faces to the silly, sad, difficult aspects of life with determination and a fine, forgiving view on humanity that encourages one to think, "How can I be a bit better?". That's it's own kind of magic.
