Historia
In Pamplona, capital of Navarra, Amaia Salazar is called in to investigate the death of a baby girl. The baby has red marks on her face, indicating she has been murdered. According to the girl's grandmother, the father tried to run away with the body, uttering something about an offering. She also mentions the Inguma - an evil being of Basque mythology that kills people in their sleep. The investigation takes Amaia and her team to the nearby valley of Baztan, where there have been an abnormally high number of similar cases - and some procedural irregularities.

Amaia Salazar, a young detective from the north of Spain, has joined a group of trainees at the FBI Academy in Virginia. Haunted by her past and having already tracked down a predator on her own, Amaia is no typical rookie. And this is no ordinary student lecture at Quantico. He now needs her help in hunting an elusive serial killer dubbed “the Composer,” and in solving another case that’s been following him his whole life.

Slow burn

So glad to have found this writer.. This author writes as though she has all the time in the world to flesh out her characters as well as create a detailed world for them to inhabit. Lots of twists and turns . The narrator did an excellent job of taking on all the characters. No trouble trying to distinguish one persona from the next. Very enjoyable book. I have already purchased another book from the same author and look I forward to disappearing into the mystery world of Miss Redondo. Well done.

Historia
Violeta comes into the world on a stormy day in 1920, the first girl in a family with five boisterous sons. From the start, her life is marked by extraordinary events, for the ripples of the Great War are still being felt, even as the Spanish flu arrives on the shores of her South American homeland almost at the moment of her birth.

Not bad
Revisado: 11-11-22
The story was well constructed and very well told by the narrator. The main character Violeta, was not a strong woman with regards to her husband Juliano, it annoyed me that she kept going back over and over to be with this man, her lack of a back bone to leave this abuser all because of the great sex, was hard to stomach.. And Juliano.....the fact that he was a super achiever.....and could do everything....well that was boring too. She also did not have the where with all to stand up for her children when she knew things were going side ways for them all because of their controling, possessive father. There is nothing redeeming about a woman who forsakes her children all for a romp in the hay. . It is just not Allende " magic"

I had just finished reading " island song" which was just a wonderfully hand crafted book and moved on to this most recent title on audible from this author. The writing was not as thoughtful and i could not fully immerse my self in the story , I realise it is for young readers but it just did not cut the mustard. The narrator was not exceptional so that did not help. In all honesty I can't recommend this book., sorry to say.

Historia
She wondered what kind of world she had brought her two daughters into, the tedious cycle of rural Jamaican life. No chance for them to set off upon adventures and see the outside world. But sisters Jenny and Hortense Rodney, do get to see the outside world. Growing up in rural Claremont, working amid the hustle and bustle, lawn parties and houses of joy in Trenchtown, the two sisters take a chance and move to England with their husbands, that far-off land of riches, where they settle down to motherhood among the jazz cafés and bleak streets of Brixton.

This is my second listening of this story. The narrator was " okay" and did the best that she could I believe, you kind of fell into a rhythm with her cadence. if you pay attention closely, you will see that there is very little direct speech , mostly indirect speech , thus the narrator just told a story with out too much inflection or variation( just her way I suppose..but.... I loved the story . That's why I relistened for a second time with about a span of 5 years in between.
