Excellent story, awful narration

Let's face it, no one can replace René Auberjonois as Pendergast. I knew going into the last book that the narration would never be the same but Jefferson May was better than what I expected. William DeMerritt however, took away from the story.
I'm not sure he even has read any of the series but his take on both Pendergast and His ward are so far off it actually made me cringe. Constance Greene is old even though she is young physically. The narrator makes her sound like an old maid when she talks. This was not consistent with the character. She also had a southern accent when her entire existence has been mainly in NYC. He also spoke very low when voicing Pendergast, such a difference from the other characters that I had to turn the volume way up on his parts and then turn volume down when other characters spoke to avoid a sudden rise in character volume. Another flaw in the voicing is that Pendergast varied from a southern accent to a Midwest accent then back again.
As always, the story is good but it's not the best Pendergast I've read or heard. However, the narration really made me wish I'd bought the physical book. If DeMerritt voices any more books, I'll have to switch back to hardback over audible.

New perspective on the Mr. Obama

I didn't vote either time for Obama because I was still an evangelical Christian conservative Republican. However during his second term I began actually reading something other than alt-right garbage and I graduated to become a fan by the end of his second term. I credit Trump's birther movement with causing me to look into the man who was our 44th president.
I also credit Trump with turning me into a democrat during his first campaign.

This book is part one of the Obama pre and active presidency. It puts a lot of details into the thought process of his decisions as president. And because he owns up to his mistakes, I like him even more. Can't wait for the rest of the story.

This book puts the humanity of the presidency in full view. Obama narrated the book and it adds to the book as he's a great orator, I highly recommend this book to anyone but especially to any moderate republicans who haven't boarded the Trump train.

I've followed Hurwitz for years and love every book. Orphan X has been his best and this is the best yet. I thought this might be the end of X but the ending was a real twist I didn't see coming. Buy this book!

I’ve read every Baldacci book and this is one of my favorites. Archer is a great character and it has a noir feel because of the time setting. Lots of twists and turns and like-able characters. I hope this is not a one off story.

I’ve been reading Joshilyn Jackson since Gods in Alabama. Her books always have a great side of southern hospitality and charm. Her characters are relatable and interesting.

Never Have I Ever is a different kind of novel from her others but the charm is still there. I was taken in by the first pages and couldn’t stop until the last page. Then I wished it was wasn’t over.

As a male reader, I highly recommend this book and all her books. They have strong women characters but the books are not just for women.

Send down the rain is Charles Martin's latest book and I could not put it down! There are several stories wrapped together that intertwine into a bigger story. Love, betrayal, and forgiveness are the main themes throughout. Just when you think you have it figured out, there is a new twist.
JoJo Brooks is a likeable protagonist who unravels a story 45 years in the making. Definitely worth the read.

Another great Pendergast novel. Authors weave a great story. I love Rene Auberjonois narration. He IS Pendergast. However, there were many places where voiceover correction was obviously not the narrator and it was distracting.

I’ve never read a book by Joshilyn Jackson that was not first rate. This is no exception. The details of southern life, the oddball characters (which we all know someone they resemble) and the rich storytelling are Jackson trademarks.
The title has several meanings and the stories intertwine seamlessly.
This story brings to the forefront a host of social taboos and place them within believable circumstances. I highly recommend this book.

The new To Kill A Mockingbird

This book looked interesting from the cover blurb so I bought it. I'm glad I did. Set in the still racially backward south of 1976 through the present the story is centered around a middle-aged aristocratic white widow, her maid and a likeable black homeless drunk man.
The story begins with a murder and the lies used to protect the killer. From this humble beginning, the story unfolds into an intricate tapestry of deceit, family, racial barriers, friendship built from the very basic need to interact with other people.
I love the narrator who has the main character , Ora, pegged and does the men and children justice too.
It's my first Cassie Dandridge Selleck novel, but I hope it's not my last. Wirth the read and destined to be placed with TKAM , as a classic.

Many panned this book as dark and not up to the author's standards. I disagree. The story is not her usual and deals with a hippie free-spirited mother who keeps having babies in jail.
While the style is different from her past stories, I enjoyed the storyline of a Hindu wannabe mom who affected her child in more ways than one might expect. Bad and good.
I've read all her books and enjoyed them all. This is as good as all the rest.
