Historia
Born to a prominent Chicago judge and his stifled socialite wife, Mia Dennett moves against the grain as a young inner-city art teacher. One night, Mia enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. With his smooth moves and modest wit, Colin Thatcher seems at first like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life.

I got this book because the description made it sound like it would be a good suspense thriller. In reality, it was annoyingly predictable and way too long. Like another reader said, the overt sexism and racism was really hard to stomach, and wholly unnecessary for the narrative or character development. Don't waste your credit, it's really not worth it.

Jane is unhappy. A struggling midlist writer whose novels barely command four figures, she feels trapped in an underwhelming marriage, just scraping by to pay a crippling Bay Area mortgage for a house—a life—she's never really wanted. There's only ever been one person she cared about, one person who truly understood her: Thalia. Jane's best and only friend nearly a decade ago during their Creative Writing days at Oxford.

well done.

Overall, what a fantastic new psychological drama. I didn't like the pace of the narrator for Jane initially, and sped it up, but the other narrators were fantastic. I found it weirdly relatable, and though it deals with murder The internal judgments and decisions of each character made more realistic than I expected it to be. Definitely worth a credit!

Execution needs work, but it's not bad.
Revisado: 07-24-23
I imagine that creating a podcast, especially an investigative podcast, is a challenging endeavor. That's why I give them a little grace.
I don't remember the main reporter's name, but he vents about interpersonal drama that's not really relevant to the central narrative. His approach is this weird juxtaposition between preaching about his expertise and an amateurish and occasionally concerning level of supposition, naivete, and gossip.
I recognize that not everyone has significant experience with public speaking or audio recording or professional audio production, but I feel that this podcast has a lot of potential and if he worked on cleaning up his production quality and narrative building, this could be one of the best investigative podcasts out there.

This was truly one of the worst books I've gotten recently. The narration was terrible, the plot was predictable, and the characters were inauthentic and unrealistic. Don't waste your time or money on this infantile, bland white savior nonsense.

Predictable but overall a pleasant listen.

The narrator for Babs was so annoying - she sounded perpetually surprised by everything that was happening, even though, the story itself didn't necessarily call for it. Specifically in how her tone rose at the end of every sentence, as if astounded by even the simplest things. It's really a shame, because it was jarring to go from the other two narrators to her, and I enjoyed the book less than I think I would have otherwise.
Other than that it's a very familiar storyline that you'll be able to see coming, though some of the details of the plot presented some interesting turns.
I love the narration for Daisy and Aurelie. If I could have, I would have given them both 5 stars, and the other only 2.

As does Rachel herself. Meh
Revisado: 07-07-18
The writing began colorful, but definitely lacked in Ingenuity and Imagination. I lost interest in the characters and their plights quickly, and while there was one relatively surprising plot twist, the work was altogether, forgettable.
It also reeked of white saviorism, which was unfortunate. the author clearly wanted to highlight the devastation of Haitian life authentically and compassionately, but the execution fell flat and self-centered.
The narration was fantastic though, and was one of the main reasons I finished the book.

She used to work for the US government, but very few people ever knew that. An expert in her field, she was one of the darkest secrets of an agency so clandestine it doesn't even have a name. And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning. Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They've killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.

I was really skeptical about whether or not this would be a good read, but found that the quality of the writing, plot development, and the fantastic narrator had me addicted from beginning to end.
