What’s the most that happened was absolutely nothing.
Revisado: 02-14-24
There was nothing about this book that was good. The characters were awful. Nothing happened in the story. All that happened was that this college guy was chasing around this girl not knowing what is going to do with his life. How boring! I do not recommend this book. It was part of a book club selection, and not a single member of the book club liked it.

Historia
Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by. Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.

Great Story and Characters
Revisado: 01-09-24
This was a book club selection for December, 2023. I didn't have time to read the book, so I purchased the audio book on Audible and listened to it while I pieced quilt tops.
I thought the main character, Molly, was well written. I enjoyed her and thought she was very comfortable being a person that wasn't "like everyone else." She wasn't super smart, but had some common sense about her. She was true to herself and an honest person, though she did have problems judging others and the mistake about stealing and item that made her look guilty of murder was definitely not in her favor.
However, the story was a good read/listen and though it is somewhat predictable, I would recommend it to someone who just wants a good "who-done-it" story.

In a profound, funny, and beautifully rendered portrait of a beloved companion, bestselling novelist Dean Koontz remembers the golden retriever who changed his life. A retired service dog, Trixie was three when Dean and his wife, Gerda, welcomed her into their home. She was superbly trained, but her greatest gifts couldn’t be taught: her keen intelligence, her innate joy, and an uncanny knack for living in the moment.

Not a Book-worthy Story
Revisado: 06-02-23
This was a book club selection. I opted to listen to it while working (at my desk). I am an animal lover. I have a degree in veterinary technology. I pick up strays, I pet everything with fur that passes by. Trixie sounded like a delightful dog and wonderful companion for the Koontz family. But I just couldn't see where the story was book-worthy. The story sounded like I had sat down in the living room or back porch of the Koontz family after losing their precious friend, and they talked about her all afternoon. I had no connection to the dog, other than the fact that I love all dogs. I almost didn't finish the book, but decided that I would to see if anything became book worthy. Trixie did become somewhat of a celebrity, and she did draw attention to service animals and the agency she came from. But otherwise, nothing notable. If you like to sit and listen to people talk about their pets, you will like this read. As for me, I wasn't that impressed.

The Perfect American Story
Revisado: 04-19-23
I grew up in the quilting world. My mother, both grandmothers, a great grandmother, and all of my aunts on both sides of the family are quilters. However, I didn't pick up the hobby until I was in my 50's. Twenty years earlier, I was gifted some blocks my maternal grandmother had embroidered, and my mother and I made a quilt top with them. I had started to hand quilt (because that was the primary way to get one quilted at that time), but set it down for years at a time. In 2019, I decided to finish that quilt. I had purchased two quilt kits when visiting a quilt shop in Kerrville, TX with my Mom and aunt. I wanted to make them, but promised myself I wouldn't start a new project until I finished the first quilt. So I did, and in January, 2020, I started my first quilt project that was created entirely by me. Eight weeks later, I had a finished quilt, and I was hooked. My Mom was so happy I had picked up quilting. She had been quilting for nearly 50 years at that point, accumulating vast amounts of fabric, top-of-the-line machines, and completed many beautiful quilts.
I discovered Jenny when I would search YouTube for instruction, advice, or guidance. When I told Mom I had been watching her videos, she said, "I met her at the Houston Quilt Show! She is the nicest person!" When I would visit Mom, we would sit down and watch videos together. By that time, Mom's dementia was pretty advanced and she could no longer quilt. This was breaking her heart, and mine, but she was glad to see that I loved it as much as she did. In the fall of 2021, she gifted me her sewing room. It was bittersweet because I knew that I could have never been able to afford a setup like hers, but she also would miss having her oasis from the world.
Mom passed away in March of 2023. She never got to see my new sewing room with all of her treasures in it. When she was in hospice, I draped her bed with a quilt that she started to make and I finished, hand quilted, and gifted it to her last Christmas. She left this world covered in that quilt and a room filled with the people who loved her most. That quilt is my most prized possession because we both had a hand it its creation.
Thank you, Jenny, for helping me continue this family tradition, and to honor the beautiful women in my family who came before me who shared this passion for quilting that I now have.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I cried and laughed all through it. I am by no means a celebrity worshiper, but the book made me want to know Jenny personally. She has a strong sense of morality, a passion for life, and an appreciation for what has been bestowed on her. One day, I will make the trek to Hamilton and, hopefully, I will get to meet this inspirational woman.

Good, but not Great
Revisado: 01-09-23
This book was our local "Book Club" selection for this month. Since I don't have a lot of time to sit and read, I have been listening to my books. Though the book was a good story, and the reader did a find job, I felt that the story wasn't exceptional. It was a story of a girl, who has it all, in conflict about throwing it all away for the "bad boy" in town. There have been so many stories written and movies produced about this that, unless there is an exceptional twist, it is just a pleasant read. This was the case with this story. I did like the ending and there was a small surprise in the final chapters, but it wasn't exceptional. If you like stories such as Bridges of Madison County (which was exceptional), or the movie Reckless, with Aiden Quinn and Darrell Hannah, you will enjoy this story.

Rob Reiner Loves This Story!!
Revisado: 12-10-22
After watching the movie for 25 + years, and after reading Cary Elwes’ Memoir about the making of the movie, I found this audiobook read by Rob Reiner. I just couldn’t pass it up.
I have to admit I enjoyed the story. But what makes this version special is having Rob read it. You can hear the love for this story on his voice. It is a great companion to Cary’s audiobook read by him, as well as excerpts but Rob Reiner, the author, and other cast members. If you are a fan of the Princess Bride, you will enjoy this.

Absolutely Delightful!
Revisado: 12-07-22
Like everyone who purchases and listens to this book, The Princess Bride is one of my favorite movies. The story is timeless, lending itself to endless popularity over many generations. Few movies can do that.
But what makes this audiobook special is that it is read by the people who created the movie. When available, the actual actors read the book. There is nothing more personal than than that. It felt as if everyone was sitting in my living room, reminiscing about the magical time in their lives when the got together to make this incredible movie.
If you are a fan of The Princess Bride, then this book will not disappoint.

Not My Favorite Book
Revisado: 02-08-22
I loved Water For Elephants. It was such a good story. So when the author wrote a book about horses, I was really excited to read (listen to) it. So excited that I did not read the reviews.
I probably should have because almost every one mentions how awful the main character, Annemarie Zimmer, was. She will forever be one of my most disliked characters in a book. She is such a drama queen, and everything in her life is 100% her fault. Her failed marriage. Her relationship with her parents. Her relationship with her child. She is toxic. She is like a government program. She destroys everything she touches. She is so selfish and self centered that you hope that everyone around her says, "I'm done," and walks away from her. But none of them do. Even her ex-husband takes the blame off of her and onto him. He is the first adulterer that I actually felt sorry for. Dan takes the blame for loosing Hoorah and spends months trying to get him back for her; for a person who clearly doesn't deserve him. She and her daughter were supposed to travel back to her parents' home to help out when Annemarie's father becomes gravely ill. But she immediately dismantled their entire life, as she did with her own, using her selfish behavior, her self pity, and her blindness to the struggles of her parents.
Every time she would realize what she had done, she would then approach the next problem with the same drama and self centered behavior to make you realize that she was sorry (not sorry) for anything she had done. The words, "I, Me, My" are used a lot when she struggles with a problem. She never once thought of someone else. Not until she watched her father being lowered into the ground that she had come to the realization that in order for her life to change for the better, she had to change everything about her.
This book was too much work. There were too many times that I wanted to take her by the shirt and smack her across the face. I wanted to cuss her out. I wanted to yell at her, "Stop getting in your own way!" "Trust the people who are trying to love and care for you!" "Stop and pay attention to what you are doing to your family!" "Quit being so Self Centered and Selfish!" I think if the author would have allowed Annemarie to be successful some of the time, it wouldn't have been such a struggle to get through the book. She didn't have any successes until the last chapter or two, and at that point I didn't really care what happened to her. The only reason I finished the book was because I liked the supporting cast. I would have liked to have heard more about her father and mother and how they ended up in America. But Dan, Eva, and Jean-Claude were strong characters and I truly wanted to see what happened to them. They carried me through to the end and I rooted for them to succeed.
I can't recommend this book because I was so exhausted at the end. I did like some of the references (though a small amount) to the show horse industry, and how horse people are around their animals, but there wasn't enough for me to consider this a "horse" book.

Follett Does Not Disappoint
Revisado: 02-03-22
This book was a Book Club selection. I had previously read, "Pillars of the Earth," and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I hoped this one would be as good. Though not as good as Pillars, it was a wonderful story and there were several times I was surprised by the events. It seemed to be a little slow in places, but I think it included parts of the story that were necessary to make sense of why people were where they were, or why they were in the situation that they were in. It is a book about World War II, German Spies, and some "romance' thrown in. I am not a romance reader, but I didn't mind what was in this book. It was somewhat graphic and I don't know if men like to read that part of a story.
I think it would be a more enjoyable read for women because the "hero" is a woman and it deals with struggles women have in relationships and emotions.
This is a great read (or listen in my case) and I would recommend it to any fan of Ken Follett.
